Across the board tariffs would be extremely bad, but there is no chance Trump gets them through Congress anyway
Posted on 10/20/24 at 10:55 am to John Barron
Well, Democrats appreciated Trumps tariffs and kept some of them.
I'll let you figure that out.

If your only economic concern is the stock market, I guess they are. Problem is, the stock market can go up on America's destruction just as much as it can go down. It's purely numbers and greed.

He will never do across the board Tariffs. He uses Tariffs as a bargaining chip to protect American Jobs. The MSM knows this but acts dumb
Posted on 10/20/24 at 10:57 am to John Barron
But they think raising corporate taxes won't make prices go up?

Tell us you don’t know shitt and you would be better off than showing your lack economic prowess

They don’t know if they’re coming or going.
When your only real platform as a party is “Not Trump!”, I suppose embarrassing inconsistencies are to be expected.

The problem is the number one issue most Americans have with the economy currently is inflation, and raising the costs of cheap foreign goods by 20% isn’t going to help with that

Exactly.

I think if you’re going to disagree with the Chicago school it’s incumbent on you to show why

No one's argued that all tarrifs are bad. I believe the exact issue is when they review Trump's plan and note projected impact to the deficit. And then he rambles about how growth will boom like never before and fix that somehow....

It is true that if industries were to return to America over them it would lead to growth and boom, but those are long term movements as JD Vance has said. In the short term it will be dramatically higher prices on a lot of goods, which I don’t think is in the GOP’s interest

I think your reference of using Chicago School is pretty explanatory in a reasonable sense.

Or for that matter raising the minimum wage to a “living wage”. The left is lousy with this shite

We have unions demanding large ridiculous wages for services because it is “fair”.
We have corporations moving work to foreign countries to take advantage of what Americans would almost consider “slave labor and ato east unfair labor practices” also easier environmental regulations.
We have a government creating nonsense environmental regulations for kickbacks while other developing countries don’t care This raises the cost of goods to be manufactured in the US.
We have average Americans celebrating foreign goods made under poor labor practices because it is cheap.
We have every other country in the world putting tariffs on goods from our country to make it be manufactured in their country.
We have manufacturing jobs leaving and our economy is being pushed towards services which are probably the most easy jobs to be eliminated due to AI/automation.
All of these things can not happen together to put the US in the best position.

The min wage and tariffs are just two ways the govt fricks up our economy and makes things more expensive and less reactive to markets.
Theyre two sides of the same coin. Dem union strongholds.
Posted on 10/20/24 at 12:26 pm to John Barron
The point of Trump’s tariffs is not to collect a single fricking dime off of them. The point is to bring our manufacturing base back to America so that we don’t have to compete against child labor, slave labor, and extreme government subsidized manufacturing.
Posted on 10/20/24 at 12:33 pm to MAADFACTS
Dramatically? Depends on how they are implemented.

I've been waiting for her to pull the rabbit out of THAT hat!!
Not sure how she intends to do the 'childcare' thingy she brags about without HUGE Subsidies going to [minority??] daycare?? Ya can't give $20+ an hour and think you can drive co$t$ down, unless your idea of driving costs down is driving people out of business and creating a chitload of gubment daycare centers where 'money i$ no object!!
