I have zero political experience and I've said quite a few controversial things on social media through the years but dammit they all have it so good for life afterwards.

Seriously. I want to muster up the courage to run one day. I'd enjoy the hell out of it and would really try to vote however my district wants me to vote on every single issue, regardless of party lines.

Run polling throughout my district on as many issues as I could as they come up and then vote however my people want me to vote. Actually be a REPRESENTATIVE of my constituents.

Do that for 10 years or so then call it quits. I'd like to think I wouldn't be corrupt and I wouldn't allow any lobbyists or my colleagues to corrupt me. I'd like to think that I would wind up being a role model for new members of congress. It's just that seeing all this divide in our country sometimes makes me want to stand up and at least try to make a difference.

I seriously think that if/when Garret Graves decides to not run again I may toss my hat in the ring.

TDsngumbo for Congress!

How many other skeletons in the closet?

I personally wouldn't survive.

You will not last but one term if you do this... The "others" will not allow you to do this...

if you move to Sunnyside, Houston and run against Sheila Jackson Lee with a platform of "puuuhhleeezz… my opponent is a fricking moron" I will donate $1,000 to your campaign

Call me naïve but I think most people get into politics with the best intentions...

I think the federal system allows for corruption...

If you really want to affect change, do something on the local level.

Said a lot of politicians.....until you realIze you can’t do shite without their money for elections, getting appointed to a decent committee, advancing to make that big money, getting a fat check from a lobbyist for “fundraising event,” and political pressure from leadership.

Has to change at the top for this to happen.....

Also, your mind frame of they got it made afterwards is exactly why we don’t need people like you in Congress, no offense

That was mostly said with sarcasm and disgust for the way the system benefits them for the rest of their lives.

ETA: I guess add that to the stupid things I've said on social media

Listened to Graves give a Talk/Presentation on Coastal Restoration at a WLF venue one day. VERY impressive. I got up afterward and sought Him out for a complimentary handshake. Talented Man; I hope He's stays honest. He will move up - barring scandal - but won't leave the fray.

Perfect your arguments, TD. You'll need em'.

If you want to run, help some local run.
Do as much as possible.
Go to the events.

And don't wait on someone to quit or die. Get used to public speaking.

Start a blog now.

And the State system...

And the County system...

And the City system...

It all depends on how big the county and cities are as to the level of corruption...

So you’re saying you have never, to your knowledge, been photographed in blackface? I’m told that’s impossible.

When I was younger, I dressed as an old slave for a production put on by a local museum. I was photographed and published in the local paper. I was in 6th grade but did not have blackface on. I'm not sorry for it nor am I ashamed of it due to the fact that it was for educational purposes.

There. That issue is now null and void. Next question please?

The only person that got into politics and didn’t cave into the federal system and corruption is Donald Trump and it makes it a lot easier when you have money. Money is a huge apart of politics even though it shouldn’t be

You might be able to win a term. But when the lobbyists find out you won't play with them, they will line up opponents to primary you.

I like what you are saying... I'm too jaded to think that could ever happen for more than a single term.

I had my face painted as a skull once to dress as the grim reaper for Halloween, but that's mostly whiteface so I assume I'm in the clear.

I want to be in Congress just so I can say something factually offending to piss off the blue checkmarks and then follow it up with telling them to go frick themselves.

Enough of this apologizing shite to the twitter mob.

Also want to “clap back” on every idiot thing AOC-Cups spews.
