Has anyone actually read Trump’s EO? There are absolutely contexts where burning an American flag would be perfectly legal to prohibit. As usual though, Massie is simply looking for likes on Twitter from his pathetic supporters.

How tone deaf does he have to be to ignore the burning of a BLM or PRide flag?

Burning a Ukrainian, Israeli or any other nations flag is not our problem. There shouldn’t be a problem with having a law on the books not desecrating ol glory

Yes and I always thought this wasn’t a mountain to die on. I don’t see the new USSC changing this one.

As my grandfather, the badest mfer I ever knew, (4 year all state linebacker at big powerhouse in Louisiana, decorated marine etc) used to say to my uncle in 70s.

Son, I killed fricking Nazis and with my bare hands, so that you would have the right to go out there in public and be a GD hippie and make a big of arse out of yourself as humanly possible, so go right ahead but don’t forget where those free speech rights come from boy. I am sure over Vietnam shite because he cousins were fighting in the jungles etc

Right, and if you go by what the order says versus what Mr. Massie says, you will see the truth.

No, you will see retardation

That's retard "logic"

Yes. Saw it and posted it this am in another thread before it hit national news. Laughed my arse off at how stupid it was, in real time.

They haven't, and you are 100% correct.

quote:

Sec. 2. Measures to Combat Desecration of the American Flag. (a) The Attorney General shall prioritize the enforcement to the fullest extent possible of our Nation’s criminal and civil laws against acts of American Flag desecration that violate applicable, content-neutral laws, while causing harm unrelated to expression, consistent with the First Amendment. This may include, but is not limited to, violent crimes; hate crimes, illegal discrimination against American citizens, or other violations of Americans’ civil rights; and crimes against property and the peace, as well as conspiracies and attempts to violate, and aiding and abetting others to violate, such laws.

(b) In cases where the Department of Justice or another executive department or agency (agency) determines that an instance of American Flag desecration may violate an applicable State or local law, such as open burning restrictions, disorderly conduct laws, or destruction of property laws, the agency shall refer the matter to the appropriate State or local authority for potential action.

So if I burn an American flag in an open field during a burn-ban, I’m good then?

Or I block traffic on the I-10 in downtown LA and burn an American flag there, again totally legal, right?

What exactly is someone “protesting” by burning our flag, other than the implication that our government should be destroyed? It’s treasonous

People who hate this country need to get the frick out of it. And if they refuse to leave, we are letting a 5th column take root

Burning the flag was actually the preferred method of disposal once it became worn and tattered due to wind erosion, age or battle. We like ol' glory standing proud and when she's past her prime, cremation was the preferred method of retirement for most.

That isn’t covered by Trump’s EO. This is specifically targeting flag burning in the context of a riot. The libertarian contingent is being dishonest about the actual EO and creating a false straw man argument.

Yes, but don't burn a Pride flag unless you want to be charged with a hate crime.

Some have been prosecuted as such. But only when they stole the flag from someone or burned someone else’s.

I’m not seeing any cases where the person was prosecuted for burning their own pride flag. Does it mean they don’t exist. However I doubt any pride flag burner has the balls to actually go buy one.

It is, and should be legal to do what you want with your property. There should also be a law that anyone catching you doing so cannot be charged for kicking your arse.

Not necessarily. It’s being critical of the government. That is an absolute right. And every single person here has been guilty of criticizing the government.

Correct

Less than 0% chance this gets through a legal challenge

I could see an 8-1 decision against with only Thomas dissenting.
