I don't think you get what's happening here.
The national emergency that is the southern border declared itself, a long time ago. The only difference now is we finally have a President willing to try and confront to problem.
For Christ's sake- the people on the front lines are telling everyone this shite is completely out of control- and the politicians are ignoring them, wholesale.

It is stupid wrong and doltish.
Trump explained in detail that the bill allowed immediate action on sections of wall. Whereas the NE would get challenged in court, probably the 9th Circuit, and he'd probably lose. Then it would got to appeal, and he'd probably lose. Then it would get to SCOTUS where he hoped he would finally win.
Then he cited that exact experience with the travel ban. He said it took a while, but eventually was successful at SCOTUS.
There was no question whatsoever Trump knew the NE route would take far far far more time. CNN has your number JT.
CNN also said Trump claimed never paid for the wall, even though Trump clearly stated again today the USMC was mode for that payment.

Separation of powers. National emergencies are not for things you couldn’t get through legislatively. It’s s terrible precedent. You people would be going bezerk had Obama done this. When he changed the rule on DACA after he said he didn’t think he had the constitutional authority we rightly said that was horrendous. This is of a piece with that and actually worse as he’s shuffling money that had already been appropriated. Only the rubes could be in favor of this.

You know that reminds me....
Trump’s unilateral rewrite of the National Firearms Act to ban bump stocks was an actual abuse of power, of horrific proportions. If you’re whining about a lawful emergency declaration but said nothing about the lawless bump stock ban, you don’t actually care about rule of law, just Trump hate.
Existing law allows POTUS to reprogram existing appropriations for limited purposes in a declared Nations emergency. There’s nothing that says he can shout “EMERGENCY!” and then unilaterally rewrite laws to do whatever he wants like ban guns or shut down coal factories. Stop being stupid.

That is precisely what they are for. It grants authority that would not otherwise be available. It was an act and delegation of power specifically made by congress. Have you read the act or the enumerated circumstances, or are you making argument based on your gut? Again....do you have any actual legal arguments?
