I'm having trouble accepting that. There was an article saying the kid bought the first rifle online that was then shipped to a dealer in Texas where the kid paid for the gun the day after his birthday. No way that order could legally be ordered on his 18 birthday from the manfacturer in GA and arrive in Texas the next day. The kid had to order the gun while he was 17. Can 17 y/os order guns online, I don't know but I highly doubt it.

If he used the grand maws credit card he could have. The gun is shipped to an FFL and then they process it. If it was found he couldn’t possess the item then the burden of denial is on the FFL in possession of the gun and not the online retailer. He would have to pass a form 4473 be cleared by background check before taking possession regardless if he paid for the item or not beforehand.

I don't understand being unwilling to accept a few simple modifications to current gun laws. I guess people are afraid it's a slippery slope and if you give an inch they will take a foot. I do a lot of hunting, own 30 or so guns, and have an LTC license in Texas. Why can't we have a set waiting period to buy a gun? If I have to wait a couple of months for my rifle, I still get my rifle. Meanwhile, if a crazy person has to wait that long, maybe he changes his mind, gets back on his meds, hangs himself, or steps in front of a bus. Maybe one of these killings is prevented. Why can't the age to purchase be moved to 21 or make an adult co-sign to purchase a gun for someone 18-21 and make that adult liable for any wrongs committed as a result of that purchase? Why can't we make juvenile crime and mental records a part of confidential background checks? Why can't we spend just a little money and build tall chain link fences with 3 strand barbed wire on top with wind screen material on it to prevent access to the school or playground? I also believe arming and training teachers needs to happen. It just seems like we act like 3 year olds and refuse to compromise at all.
