For nine years he suffered and did not let anyone know. Talk about dying well. I hope my death can emulate that.

I know that my neighbor got mad in the carpool line and that a friend of mine sprained her ankle. He had cancer and no one knew.

Steven Crowder’s show today was heavily focused on Norm. Very good tribute to Norm

Yeah, I know I’m not strong enough for that. Anthony Jeselnik put it best:

quote:

Battling cancer for 9 years without telling anyone is the most Norm Macdonald shite ever.

But yeah, I’ve been a Norm fan since I was 8 or 9 years old. His comedy killed me even from that early age and shaped my humor more than anyone else. Norm was my hero, and now my hero is dead. I now know what teenage girls felt like when John Lennon and Elvis Presley died. Talking with people in their early 20s and they have no idea who Norm is when he was an absolute Titan. I feel obligated to spread his good word and jokes.

You can tell with covid that we're a nation full of people that don't know how to die well.

He was always my favorite SNL Weekend Update host. I did not realize he was only there for 3 years

It’s remarkable how a large segment of the populace is seemingly now unwilling to even acknowledge the concept of it.

His humor was that of someone not giving a frick but he was a true perfectionist to his craft. He cared deeply about the joke.

If Norm was your hero then you have priorities in Your your life that need to be reevaluated. RIP for a funny dude. But Hero? Nah.

Generally I would agree with you, but there was something almost near semi-heroic about the windmills he tilted at.

Norm fought for and didn’t surrender our free speech. He looked at every authoritarian right in the eyes that tried to silence him or anyone else and said “frick You!” It nearly destroyed his career (certainly deterred it), since if he played nice he would have almost certainly been Letterman’s successor, but that’s what makes Norm great. Maybe he didn’t fight in Nam (his Uncle Terry did), but Norm has been one of the greatest free speech activists and certainly the funniest of our times. He didn’t surrender to anyone.

Jesus would probably tell you not to judge or ridicule your neighbor on who they choose to be their hero.

He strove into work surrounded by people that would do anything to see him fail. He stood juxtaposition from almost everyone he worked with from a political stance. He never backed down. He held to his positions and beliefs.

Now we find out he had cancer for 9 years and never hinted at it.

He's someone people should emulate.

If it is true that he gave up his SNL gig for not self censoring, he is much more courageous than I imagine you can imagine.

How about reevaluating your own damn self.
