Reformation is warranted then and with continued pressure that will would be done. Broward county in particular seems to attract these individuals. Like most things, they are reflections of leadership. A strong leader would not stand for those under their tutelage to create these types of antithetical action. The slogan for all cops everywhere is to protect and serve, regardless of race, creed or parish.
In an open forum, I'd gladly discuss these items in person but cops would never take the chance to openly and freely discuss that which chastises them. Perhaps it is even more warranted today.
The consequences would be extreme as unfortunately cops would look to retaliate after being shown publically for the lack of candor they display even in forums such as this. However, the martyrs created from open discussion would yield greater action, reaction and change from a now pissed off public provided the open forum was large enough to which the public could bear witness.

Then why wouldnt you answer a simple question? I think you are pathetic and cant see straight. You make zero sense. None.

Police officers need better leadership with higher paid higher IQ field grade officers in control of the muscle.
Posted on 12/7/19 at 7:41 am to Richleau
It's tough. I think a good first step would be de-militarizing local police forces. There's no reason for local police to have tanks for example. Squad vehicles painted up in solid black with tint so dark you or I would get a ticket. They shouldn't be projecting fear onto the population.
Then we'd have to dramatically increase the pay to attract better candidates. I'm not sure there's a political will for that tax-wise until addressing the militarization issue above.
Reforming civil service rules is a must. It's very, very hard to get fired in civil service and can take years and a mountain if paperwork and hearings to exhaust all appeals. There's only so many desk jobs you can put those folks on during that process.
Also worth noting, police shootouts that injured/killed bystanders is historically not uncommon as you'd think. Used to happen often - that's what started a lot of the gun control push 60-70 years ago. The difference now is that everyone has high-def video cameras in their pocket, the internet and a sensationalist 24/7 cable news cycle.

Yes. To put it in sports terms, the players are only reflections of the coach. We know for a fact broward county has terrible leadership. Results like what we saw in that video are created through poor leadership. We have the greatest ability to affect others on a purely local level. I dont care how big or small the department. Without great and strong leadership, you will have bad actors.
And to the point of de-militarization, I agree as well. Often times these devices are utilized not out of necessity but out of want and desire. The cops do not need more weapons to fight criminals, they need sharper minds. Place the monies spent on trinkets and usher that to stronger leadership. Place all actions of a reckless few on the shoulders at the very top. Create strong incentives to do well for leadership and create strong checks and balances to ensure that leader's output is ensured by the public. Remove all doubt and create conversation with the public to ensure all needs are met. There is zero reason in this age of communication that we cannot without fear of retribution freely discuss the needs of the people to those who are meant to serve and protect.

You really are pathetic. It's funny if it weren't so tragic. Carry on man. You only serve to demean yourself but I pray that you learn from this exchange and be better in the future.

Let's consider the Broward school shooting where the cop hid instead of doing something. Imagine if instead of hiding he had run into that school with guns blazing. How many innocent injured/deaths would he had been blamed for? It's a lose/lose any way you look at it.

There are far too many examples, just one last week, where a good guy with a gun (armed with a sharp mind and strong morals) can quickly thwart evil. Do not let broward county be the example upon which to follow. Believe it or not, they are most definitely the outlier. Isn't that israel fella still in charge over there?

Because he’s just talking shite on the internet. Are you suggesting that if you ask a cop a question they will shoot or beat you?

Your first post on this thread could be read to imply that.

I’ve got a couple of cop friends. You should come ask them. They are in Florida. Doubt you’d do that though. It’s actually more than a couple.

Or that you people are cowards who would rather run their mouths on the Internet than risk even verbal confrontation for your stupidity.

I see that now. To be clear, that wasn’t the intent. My insinuation was that instead of stupidity calling all cops cowards maybe he should ask one. I was pointing out his own cowardice but was apparently ineffective. Live and learn.
None of my cop friends are the violent type. One was on that bad boys bad boys cop show once though. It was a bum fight and after everything was under control one of the bums had him dying laughing. No bums were shot or beat up.

The brotherhood of LEO. All hero`s and demand respect for their service. When a bad one gets found out, they cry they are not all bad, but have covered for bad ones for years. Live by the sword, die by the sword.
Say it to their face.
Right now I`m going after Our DOT/DMV. These frickers are running from me and have been backpeddling everytime I call them out. Radio and TV are next. They are going to be sorry.
Too much to mention about the numerous local PD`s Ive delt with over the years.
I respect the uniform, not the person.
Do the right thing, own and call out the bad....

Welfare, immigration and a lax judicial system gets you this. This thread has a warped focus on the cops, who may or may not have shown tactical incompetency in this case. I love liberty, but bringing and promoting the births of cognitively low populations makes martial law the only solution for these urban cess pools.
Where is the information on those that decided to attack society today. I see nothing about the information of the scum criminals?

Yet they won't do anything about it. Protecting their own is more important than protecting the public. That's a problem.
My eyes were opened to the average leo mentality on a firearms forum with a lot of cops on it. It’s the strongest tribal mentality I’ve ever seen, and that includes combat arms. They will reflexively defend damn near any action taken by one of their “brothers” until it’s proven wrong beyond every shadow of a doubt. Then they pull the “well, it’s a small minority” card.
That’s the average mentality. It doesn’t mean there aren’t more Serpicos our there, but they’re unfortunately rare.

Just so we are clear who the enemy is.

Both cousins have criminal histories: Court records show Alexander was sentenced to probation for a 1996 robbery and 1997 burglary. Five arrests in the 2000s resulted in no convictions before he served a lengthy stretch in prison for a 2008 armed robbery conviction in southwest Florida, gaining his release in 2017.
Florida Department of Corrections records show Hill served time in prison twice: in the 1990s on burglary and robbery convictions and more recently for five burglary-related convictions.
Naomi Hill, the aunt of both suspects, said Alexander was “a good boy — he had changed his life around.” She said he was married with three children and working for a garbage-collection company.
