Well it sounds like he is applying for asylum. I just had a client get their asylum interview after filing for it in 2018. I had a client that filed his asylum with the court in 2016 and still hasn't had a hearing, although that is an extreme example it typically is closer to 4-5 years for court.

I don't think most people understand how slowly our legal immigration system moves and how dysfunctional it is. Under the BBB we have given billions upon billions of dollars to immigration causes, but have done very little to address the bottleneck in our system. By the time all is said and done we will have less than 100 more immigration judges, likely less than 800 total, and we will have done nothing to address that problem.
