Let’s just assume the economy stays where it’s at now and nothing catastrophic happens on Trump’s side of things, would Bernie be able to rally the base and pick up some independents in key battle ground states to give trump a fight?

IMO, Hillary was a better candidate than Bernie (and yes I realize that’s saying a lot). I just don’t see any way possible Bernie can win middle America over with his communist ideology.

Am I getting too confident or is that the general consensus amongst the rest of you?

California
New York
Illinois
Massachusetts
Vermont
Oregon
Washington
Maryland
Delaware
Rhode Island
Connecticut
Hawaii

These states are guaranteed wins for any Democrat. There may be a few more Bernie can win, but not many more.

It’s a shame because outside of Chicago most of Illinois is filled with good, blue collar folks.

The worst place I've ever been was in northwestern Illinois. It was as depressing as rural Appalachia without the natural beauty. And the people were Yankee jackasses.

It would become a socialists vs capitalist election and Trump would win in a landslide. Old folks have the highest turnout in every election cycle and pretty much decide every Presidential election. They have tried to say the young will get out and vote this time, but they always have the lowest turnout. Since old folks determine every election we are talking about a generation of Americans who spent their youth fighting socialism. Trump wins big.

Republicans aren’t voting for socialism/communism.... period.
Traditional Dems and most moderates aren’t voting for socialism/communism.
Independents aren’t voting for socialism/communism.

Therefore can Bernie get elected if he carries 100% of the far left libs and far left Dems? Hardly since that makes up less than 20% of the total voting.

Bernie would win the hard blue states and lose the purples and the election. He’s a DINO and I worry that many Dems will sit out if he wins the nomination.

Why would keeping an avowed socialist worry you? White guilt?

And he’s not a DINO. You people elected the squad. That is your new party.

He beats trump in the Midwest in the polling averages, pretty competitive in really poor areas like west va and East KY as well. He has more of a chance than people will admit.

Bernie being the nominee is best case scenario for Trump.

Confidence is fine, but dreaming of a 40+ state landslide is never going to happen.

People are VERY dug in ideologically to their party. Most Democrats will still break down and vote for Bernie even though he's a lunatic.

As such, all the dark blue states will still go Bernie.

Look at Hillary polling in those same areas at this point in 2016.

Dem Primary is artificially pumping the numbers, as they tend to do.

But Bernie will win at least 222 Electoral votes, because that is how many ANY dem candidate will win. Jeffrey Dahmer would get at least that many electoral votes.

196 is the baseline for any GOP candidate. Same Dahmer analogy.

I disagree for two reasons.
1.) Bernie carries the most enthusiasm, and enthusiasm usually is reflected in voter turnout.
2.) If Trump does lose, Bernie winning would be the worst possible outcome.

The same can be said for other Blue states.

Hell look at the map of California last election. It’s entirely red except for the coast

This is what's most dangerous. Sanders would be far more destructive than any of those other Democratic bums, so him being one step closer to winning is still scary, even though his odds of winning may be low.

Most independents have 401k plans. They aren’t voting for Bernie as to protect their retirement plans. You will start seeing Wal Street insiders predict gloom and doom under a Sanders administration.

Many on this board are dismissive of the media communist indoctrination of the past 30 years.

Fell the Bern would have out performed Killary in 2016.

That saying, this election is for Trump to lose.
