Pilots when they don’t fly are admin working with very liberal admin enlisted. The maintainers are the conservatives and do all the real work in a squadron. Most are close with pilots but in the Marines the S shop enlisted fricks get awards, get off early, hang with the pilots all day. Unless an officer is in charge of a maintenance shop, they really don’t give a frick.
I was a crew chief on Hueys and mechanic in the Marines, for background.

I don't envy recruiters going forward. Unless a draft or major stop loss is put in place, the services may never make mission again.

Lol I’m glad I did recruiting when I did. And I had no life then. I’d definitely get relieved and probably get out. That is such a different life.

Brigades in USAREC are graded based on gross numbers. Battalion and below on net.

Oh I know. Does USAREC still do 5pm close? They started that when I was on the streets. I was so damn jelly. I had my own office (1 man PCS hour away from RSS) and the Army was the only other branch a 1-1 station.

Very true and as a former naval aviator, I will tell you we give zero fricks what the enlisted admin’s opinions are…… God bless you as a maintainer. Worth your weight in gold.
ETA: A good maintainer can get you out of a bad situation, or keep you in a great one. We bought endless cases of booze for a hard break in sig, rota, etc.

That's bullshite. My First Sergeant held our calls at 4pm and expected the offices to be empty once the call was done unless there was active processing going or appointments scheduled prior to the call. We had to force ourselves to leave the company HQ NLT 8 so that our station commanders would leave.
When my First Sergeant wouldn't leave early on his wedding anniversary I called his wife and snitched on him. She and I got along very well after that.
I saved the marriage of one of my recruiters by encouraging him to seek counseling for his PTSD. His wife asked me to talk to him because she felt comfortable talking to me because I speak German.

Ehh it’s the Marine Corps. We take stupid to the max. I was the first recruiter of 3 to not get relieved and have a very successful 36 months. The day i checked out, not receiving an end of tour award, my sergeant major tried chewing my arse
Going back to the fleet I was deflated, had tons of medical issues that I put off for years and got out 2 years later.
Fk toxic leadership.
