If this Officer serves two years in Battalion Command and then attends the military school that you mentioned as a Resident Student, then this is no punishment at all.
Many commands last only one year, so, holding a Battalion Command for two years is no punishment at all.
Attending a military school as a Resident Student is certainly no punishment. In fact, it's a reward for good service. It's what happens to the Army's best Lieutenant Colonels, it seems to me.
Do I understand things correctly here?

Unless I have understood you both incorrectly, we are all in agreement that this Officer will suffer no adverse consequences affecting his Career. He is seen as an exceptionally talented Lieutenant Colonel, he will be in Battalion Command for long enough to impress a Promotion Board, he will attend a Senior Service College as a Resident Student, which is an award for given to the Army's best Officers.
None of the three of us agree with this outcome, but, there it is. We agree that the US Army is promoting these Officers who share this Philosophy, and wants to them to achieve the very highest ranks.
This has been a very informative discussion, and, a model for how ALL conversations should happen here on the TD PT.

I have become highly cynical over the past eighteen months. Things that I thought would never be seen in our military have become common place. The first open fissure was President Obama permitting service members to wear their uniform during Gay Pride events during his administration. As you are aware, illegal by the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
The tradition of apolitical officers is completely gone in our senior leadership. Effectively destroyed by George Floyd, Black Lives Matter and the pandemic.

One of the mandatory requirements for promotion for COL is 2 years in a Centrally Selected List billet. You can get curtailed at 18 months if you are selected first look for SSC, as my former boss did, but you would have to have at least one OER on file in that position.
Battalion Command and specific Division Staff primary positions are the only positions that count.

I’m a former Infantry Grunt. 3 years 101st Airborne (Air Assault). I would be asking higher ups for a transfer out of his battalion. I’m sure it’s already happening. Oh, we had about 80 guys in my company, about 70 were white. Hispanic’s, Filipino, Guam, and 3 AA. This guy is just digging his own grave. Literally and figuratively!
