The Heather McDonald book on racial equality programs is making our future look more depressing every chapter. Just a sample:

The Dept of Energy's Office of Science is the largest funder of the physical sciences in the U.S., overseeing x-ray, nuclear weapons and nuclear fusion research.
It's former directors have been physicists. However, the Biden administration named a soil geologist from UC-Merced, Asmeret Asefaw Berhe with no physics background and no job as an administrator in science.
She is a black female who is committed to 'create a diverse and equitable STEM community.' She recommends readings on racism and DEI.
One physicist at the D of Energy said 'she thinks merit is a myth and hierarchies of achievement are arbitrary.'

Other efforts to achieve equality include the elimination of advanced classes for the gifted in K-12. Some California cities only allow gifted students to take accelerated course work starting in 12th grade 'to give minority students time to catch up.'

Meanwhile, China is starting segregation of advanced students in elementary school and the number of their HS students scoring in the top range on science and math tests on international rankings is going up while the scores of US students is going down.

Her stuff on medical schools is really scary. Those young doctors may not read beyond 5th grade level, but they are committed to diversity and equality.

I don’t know about other cities in California but I can promise you that isn’t the case with the Fresno or Clovis school districts. There is a school specifically for gifted students and our daughter was in the International Baccalaureate Program in Fresno. Our son is currently in high school in Clovis and they have advanced classes readily available for students.

Wherever this is taking place needs to get their heads out of their asses. Parents need to start making themselves known at the school board meetings. As far as the DoE getting involved…. Qualifications freaking matter. Skin color and sex mean nothing. This shite needs to be fixed immediately before we fall further behind. Get the best people and we all win.

I did some engineering work for 4 physicists at Los Alamos on two different neutrino projects .
Los Alamos is not a place for pretenders. I would be very surprised a geologist would have the math/physics background to understand what is happening at Los Alamos.Like everything xiden* does, this a mistake and will put us back years in research.

I'm not sure she knows anything about geology either. She wrote her papers on racism.

It's probably been tried. What happens is the parents of GT kids will show up at the board meetings and make a simple promise: 'Get rid of GT and all our kids are transferring to private schools.' This happened in Shreveport and the school board backed down.

They aren’t creating equality, it is equity they are shooting for. I am sure that is what Heather Mac Donald is saying in her book. The terms are not interchangeable.

I agree there should be equality/equal opportunity for all. There should never be equity which can only happen by bringing people down, not up.

You're missing the bigger point...

A dumb population requires more assistance from the government.

Idiocracy is a blueprint for them, not satire.

A ethnically and religiously divided society is easier to control.

Each group in their minority coalition would have little to no power or wealth without them. That reality and the patronage scheme they’ve created, holds it together, even as the country decays around us, and we grow ever poorer.
