I disagree. He's done a great job in Florida, running for President was likely always in the cards for him.
What was dumb was for him to run against Trump. From the outset he should have steered well clear of any criticism of Trump and Trump policies, focusing instead on Biden.
Any questions about Trump or Trump policies/issues should have been handled with a blanket response along the lines of: "I'm not running to be the next Donald Trump, I'm running to be the next President. The current President is Joe Biden so that's who I'm running against, anything else is just the media's attempt to create drama to keep Biden in office. If you don't have any questions for me about me versus Joe Biden, then we have nothing to talk about."

I couldn’t care less about “sick burns”. I’m simply pointing out that many posters here had the opposite effect of what they were going for. You think he will beat Haley? He would have if not for his followers. That’s a fact. Even if you don’t like it.
He was never going to beat Trump. Who those posters turned off aren’t trump fans. We mostly laugh at y’all. Who they turned off were the voters that were undecided. Those are the voters they needed. Now Rob may loose to friecking Haley. Calling Trump fans stupid cultists backfired and brought the undecideds to Trump or other candidates. It hurt Ron. It may have hurt him so much that he won’t be able to run in 2028. Again. Facts. Even if you don’t like them.

Trump came out swinging against DeSantis even down to a personal level very early. When DeSantis’ supporters online return in kind the personal and nonsensical attacks of Trump and the Trumpists, they’re then labeled as “mean-spirited.” You’re introspective enough that you could admit this if you honestly assessed it.
