What about Jim Crow? That never happened?

Yep, it happened and within one generation this country not only elected somebody, that would've been subjected to those laws, president but even re-elected him. That's some pretty big progress.

Does Jim Crow make people smoke crack, kill each other and father children with multiple women?

Ehhh... So you honestly think non-violent felonies have been treated the same way for whites and blacks over the last 40 years? ( a generation).

Black people in the USA in 2017 aren't oppressed by any stretch of the imagination.

There may be individual cases, no doubt, but no groups are oppressed.

That could be the case, or they have prior convictions on their record that isn't in the statistics. They will try and say it's white privilege that got the whites their attorneys though, total bullshite. People that bust their asses getting educated and bust their asses working and making money shouldn't feel bad for it. The others that don't have the money didn't do what they should have done and there's no other explanation. It's all on the individual and their want to better themselves in this country, nothing else.

I would like to see some sort of statistical break-down on this.

How many are in prison with prior convictions vs first time offenders.

Furthermore, I would like to see something showing were the accused by-passed legal council all-together vs those who chose to have adequate legal representation in a court of law.

You can bet your bottom dollar that if I or a family member of mine is facing a felony conviction in a court, I am going to find the best lawyer that I can afford. Even if I have to borrow the money.

Many lawyers will allow you to set up a payment plan.

I think its important to note that 1865 wasnt the end of this as was falsely stated.

And there always will be. Same as every demographic. That's not organized oppression. That's some people being assholes to each other. Just like since the dawn of time, I guess

It's also important to note that Vietnamese immigrants who were oppressed in 1965 are successful today.

I keep hearing that all these blacks are being oppressed in racist America but how does that compare to other nations

Who cares?

What matters is everyone being treated equally here, and that as a nation we try to insure that everyone is treated equally as best we can.

Fwiw, I think we do a better job than most.

And I think it's important to note that someone who's part of an "oppressed" minority that makes up 13% of the population was elected president by those oppressors.

I've learned a few things so far in life. One being people who brag about income generally are full of shite and insecure.

Im not rich but i am a software engineer who obtained knowledge of a proprietary system/coding language. Pure dumb luck but there are only a handful of people in the world who can do my job. I also get to work from home 80 percent...

Dude , that's impressive by any standards of success , but honestly, do you believe you would have achieved these things in an inherently oppressive system that sought out to limit you because of skin color ?

How often were you a victim ?
How often were you deprived because of your skin color alone?

That's a major problem with race relations . People that only see cause and effect relationships through the prism of race will always find reasons to accept failure because the blame game is easily accessible and more palatable than personal accountability.

Most whites I know do not think of themselves as "a people". Many blacks I know do subscribe to being a member of a larger group.

Just a theory but I think that type of groupthink needs to change and I don't know how to do that culturally.

Just trying to gain perspective on the level of oppression that American blacks are facing relative to what others around the world are facing.

Why? If you are in the hospital for open heart surgery, does it make you feel better to know someone has cancer? We should always strive to make our country better, regardless of situations in other countries.

We should treat blacks like the untouchables are treated in India, so they can understand what oppression truly is. Maybe then they'll finally shut up & appreciate the benefits of living in America. I'm sure they'll still want free shite, though.

I can tell you i was picked up by the police when i was 12 doing nothing but walking home. They drove me around and brought me to some kids house and asked the kid "is this him?". All that white kid had to do was say "yes" and my story never happens.
