Anyone who’s ever bought a car the old fashioned way has used similar tactics. It works a lot of the time.

Never read the book. As long as I feel the other person is is arguing in good faith I will keep up the conversation. I am on here to more learn about current events than anything else. I am sure the book is worth the read though. Trump is really good at what he does.

'I aim very high, and then I just keep pushing and pushing' In the book, Trump says — or the journalist Tony Schwartz, who ghostwrote "The Art of the Deal," says — that his dealmaking philosophy is simple. "I aim very high, and then I just keep pushing and pushing and pushing to get what I'm after," he says in the book. "Sometimes I settle for less than I sought, but in most cases, I still end up with what I want."

Its the way that most people negotiate salaries, houses, cars etc. Party A goes in high, party B goes in low and more times than not, you end up in a range where both parties thought they would settle anyways.

Its not anything revolutionary.

99% of the deal making in my life has been with my overspending wives (18 years for the first and 31 on the current). You have to know when to allow her to spend on stupid crap and when to say 'no.' With his money Trump doesn't have that problem.
