I can't believe people aren't outraged by this.

Should people that don't pay taxes and live on the govt teet have a reason to worry here? Not like they will be digging into how the use their EBT cards and welfare checks.

Given the job market, the 87,000 will probably be about as qualified as the Jackson Hewitt tax yokels you see at Wal-Mart

pretty much, I bet they do a mass hiring initiative and try and offer a bunch of GS7/9 positions that will pay shite

the people that then get hired will hate the managers who are relatively new because they just went through a mass retirement

Dang that’s one of the worst positions I’ve seen someone take and think they are refuting a stand .

Again, noone on this board seems to be able to articulate a clear answer this question: why do you want to raise taxes on the poor and low income elderly?

You are advocating for a much more regressive system in the name of "fairness" but it turns out to be much more punitive on the poor as they end up paying a larger percentage of their income in taxes under your proposed tax regime.

Everyone paying the same percentage is not regressive it’s fair. If this was the case, everyone would care if congress raises or lowers the percentage, it’s about accountability.

Currently many people don’t care what government programs cost because it doesn’t cost them anything. It has incentivized the government to spend way more than it should, they are basically buying votes.

The level of service since COVID has been utter dog shite. It takes me hours to get ahold of any customer service reps to get information or clear notices for clients

This is certainly true, but I’ll bet it doesn’t improve.

How is an income tax “tyranny”?

And a national sales tax is regressive as it taxes the poor more than the rich, not exactly the ideal tax code id imagine.

Except it’s not though and the fact you can’t see it speaks for itself. It takes far far more of a poor persons income to support themselves day to day than it does a wealthy person. Simply saying everybody pays the same percentage doesn’t take that into account and is, yes, regressive and unfair.

Are you arguing for changing tax rates based on income, or a standard deduction that prevents taxes on income below the poverty level no matter your income?

If your arguing for different rates we think completely differently and will never see eye to eye on this. If you are arguing for a standard deduction to prevent taxation on income below poverty level but everyone paying the same rate than we aren’t far off.

My only issue with that is how do you control voting for free stuff when it cost a percentage of the population nothing? I see it here in Louisiana with homestead exemption. People whose property assess below 75k vote yes to everything because it cost them nothing to get the service proposed.

What is wrong with different rates based on income. A tiered structure where you pay 0%, 10%, 20%, etc based on the income amount seems to be a fair approach where the poorest pay the least since they can least afford to and it’s stepped up for each income tier you cross. I don’t see how relying on a standard deduction is any better?

I think your fear is misplaced. The Trump Tax Cuts vastly benefited the wealthy and even then vastly benefited the most wealthy of the wealthy. The poor get free stuff for sure but let’s not pretend they are the only ones doing so. The wealthy just put a crap ton on the government credit card for our kids to pay to benefit themselves, but yeah let’s worry about poor people voting for free stuff.
