Well we're all looking through out own eyes, even though we're trying to look through their's.

So just saying you're looking through their eyes doesn't make it so. And just pretending that we're looking through their eyes isn't enough. We have to consider the context at the time to determine if it would even make sense.

For example, how could they only ensure citizens' Constitutional rights could be protected when we they didn't really have any foolproof mechanisms to verify citizenship and ensure that those lack of mechanisms wasn't used to deny a person is a citizen?

What if you were from Southern state and visiting a northern one alone, far from any other person or thing to support your claim as a citizen? And what if you were overheard saying something that made locals angry? What would stop them from using your inability to support your claim to argue that you we're a citizen and therefore lacked the projection of those rights? Therefore, since you weren't entitled to freely express what made them angry, they can throw you in jail for it and let you got there since you're also not entitled to due process.

It just seems like if something is as important as the protection of the Constitutional rights can be disregarded by plausible deniability of your citizenship since you failed to prove it. then those protections aren't that powerful.
