I'm not a fan either, but this is a message board. Without some degree of light hearted trolling and name calling, it isn't any fun. We shouldn't take ourselves so seriously. Imagine if everyone were as self assured as NT74?

I prefer foul language and dank memes to color my message.
Agreed. Who created Drumpf? The worst one yet, musta been NT74.

Do people even call libertarians names anymore? They’ve become completely irrelevant. Most of the young libertarians on the internet converted to some form of alt-rightism a while back and now libertarians hardly seem to exist.

Correct.

And, interestingly, because it sounds kinda funny to those who speak English.........the left ran with it as a sort of insult.

Contemplate that. The party of tolerance used a legitimate name likely held by other people of that nationality...........as an insult because they think it sounds funny.......to US!

Libertarian Party members do appear to have moved farther to the right, that's for sure. a big part of why i left the party, but i've always styled myself more along the historical definition not the 40 year old American ideology

First actual position taken in this thread, so, I'll run with it. How so? In pure politics(as in, the "If I were King" view), I'm pretty friggin libertarian. Yes, I know Trump isn't. I know what government would look like if I could wave a wand. Alas, I have no wand.

But, I'm interested. What about being "libertarian" has shifted right? I mean, yes, I see people who are right that call themselves libertarian. But mis-applying a word to oneself is a common political problem. Kinda like "moderate".

Bill Weld getting the VP nomination is a solid example

Why are you so interested in finding "common ground" or asking for concessions from those that had to endure absolutely no common ground for so long?

This. "Compromise" always means "move left."

Then, the "compromise" position becomes the new starting point. The talking points never change, and what was one day a "middle ground" position becomes a mean, hateful position that only racists and nazis would hold... Necessitating more "compromise."

To be fair to the OP though, it is far too common to insult instead of educate… I know I am guilty of it. There are certain tactics(like Odummy) that automatically cause walls to be put up(not THAT wall) instead of fostering dialogue.

That's a person, not an issue.

On what issues would you say that libertarians......ie, the actual people who call themselves libertarians.........have moved right?

the most blatant example would be the belief that business is an extension of the individual that should be subject to the same rights as individuals

Name ONE issue where you believe liberals would give up even one inch on today if Republicans would come all the way to that inch?

What would you consider the legitimate libertarian position on this to be versus the one you consider to be right shifted?

individuals are individuals
businesses are not

not that the LP was ever particularly in on this belief, but they've become more vocal in calling for the rights of businesses as if they're equal to those of the individuals
