How does one successfully argue with a liberal?

I have this one liberal friend who always starts political arguments. I usually just ignore it but when I decide to engage him with facts and well-thought out statements, he just counters with idiotic statements and tries to call me stupid, acts as though he's completely oblivious as to what the left has done over the years and what they're doing now, pretends the Russian collusion story is still regarded as fact, and just acts as though Trump is going to kill me and my grandmother (his words, not exaggerated generalizations).
How do you even remain engaged in debate with someone like this? The temptation to stoop to his level is high but I remain calm and usually just end it there. I hate ending it there, though, because it usually makes me feel like he thinks he won and I lost, when in reality I'm just literally at a loss for words on how to respond to his ignorance.

Trying to argue policy with a liberal isblike trying to teach calculus to a 5 year old. They do not have the necessary tools to understand what you are saying and you will just get frustrated. You just pat them on the head and agree. Liberalism is an immaturity. College age kids should be liberals because they should want to change the world but tgey should eventually grow out of it and the ones that dont are tge idiots among is.

Just ignore them.
When you tell a fat arse or a drug addict they have issues they get defensive. Same thing with liberals.

Facts are good to use, but most liberals I know just ignore them.
You’d be better off buying them a Captain Kangaroo dvd and tell them to enjoy it, and move on. Let them figure out why?
