What are you talking about? Is this specifically about gender identification? Because I certainly don't see people suffering from BP, depression, and other mental illnesses asking to be put on a pedestal or praised. Most just want fricking help.
As for the whole gender identity thing, I don't see that as mental illness per se. I think there are people who are truly wired in their psyche differently from the anatomy they were born with.
I've got no problem with them being what ever they want to be. But no, they don't get to demand special treatment or get to be heralded as some sort of heroes in their bravery.
Just do your own thing quietly, no one fricking cares.
