I knocked up my worst enemy on the day we broke up, and when I found out she was pregnant a couple months later I dragged her to get an abortion. She was crying and went to the back with a nurse, and I felt the greatest relief. They came out about 10 minutes later, and said she couldn't get an abortion because the doctor didn't want to do one on a crying girl, because it would bum him out too much. After that she decided she wouldnt get one. I was so pissed I didn't talk to her for 6 months, but the first time I held my son I knew she had made the right decision
and following through with the procedure would have been an enormous mistake; out of all the things i hate her for she redeems herself for that choice

Consciousness is a made up thing to explain the soul.
The soul is a religious thing as far as I know and comes with implications of such.
Consciousness simply describes that we are aware were alive and understand our surroundings.
Atleadt that's the contextual meaning I'm familiar with. There maybe more as this is an area of overlaps.
I don't think babies are conscious in the womb though where religion seems to believe they have a soul at that point.

I think another important distinction is all animals have some level of consciousness.While in religion it's typically assumed outside of certain cartoon based movies that animals don't have souls or go to heaven.

I will never claim to understand the female mind because I am a heterosexual male, but I do believe there are many women who weaponize pregnancy, and therefore abortion as well.

THEIR bodies aren't the ones being sliced and diced then vacuumed out of a uterus.
We're not talking about a woman having a wart or a mole removed. Those are actual women's health concerns. No one is protesting at the local dermatologist office, or dentist, or oncologist.
It is NOT her body being destroyed. Once the egg is fertilized a completely unique DNA signature is created. That means that is now a completely unique individual human developing within her.
If she, and she alone, has the right to end that life before birth, why should her right to end that life end before that life is no longer dependent on her?
Why is it HER right and hers alone? Can the father demand she carry it to term for him to raise after birth or, better yet, demand an abortion if she wants to keep the baby?
If she can decide she wants nothing to do with a child via abortion, why can't the father do a de facto abortion prior to birth to abdicate his parental responsibility? Equal rights, right?

It's my understanding that women can still have sex while pregnant. Some even want more sex. But hey, relationships can be complicated.

Well, there are different levels of 'awful.' Worst I've read about was a prostitute that had 7 abortions because 'I don't like the side effects of birth control pills.'
