It started as a lame troll by the OP, and then it had WhiskeyPapa jump on board with his usual schtick, at which point I felt like doing a little writing to clarify my own points on the topic and tried to shift the subject along with researching a few stats for other wars.

But then WP went into overdrive, and for the last day or so this thread has just been a vehicle for seeing how far he'll take it next.

Stay tuned...

It is completely lost on him that in our military cemeteries the German POWs buried there are awarded the same respect and honor as our own soldiers.

It is obvious he has never set foot in a military cemetery.

You're no good at false equivalence. Which really isn't surprising when you factor in your lack of debate skills and absolute need of Google and Wikipedia to tell you your arguments.

Or outside of his mom's basement.

Dude has a duel monitor setup so he can go from Wikipedia straight into the reply box on TD.

False. The plethora of first hand accounts, journals, letters, and testimonies are absolutely on my side in that the vast majority of boots on the ground in nazi Germany were just normal arse men following orders under threat of death, not only to them, but to their families as well.

I encourage you to actually do some REAL investigation. Not hitting up Wikipedia.

You're an absolute joke and a failure of a human being.

My God. Another shitty R-Kansas poster. Where did you learn your flag history? The Stars and Bars was the First National flag of the Confederacy.

I think I'll have a coffe chicory stout in memory of all the Bushwhackers that gave their all to keep the Red Legged Jawhawkers the hell out of Missouri. They were doing fine until the Blue Coats sent a buncha Germans into MO.

Dammit. You're not a bad guy, Walt. You wouldn't get so much shite around here if you weren't so gung ho about these adolescent obsessions you have with Nazi Germany and the Union Army, and if you weren't so intent on burying everybody here under gigantic walls of historical quotes.

In the spirit of Memorial Day, I will say that if you grew up in the shadows of the Lookout Mountain Battlefield on the TN-GA border, then that's some interesting stuff.

Perhaps even more interesting is this part...

quote:

The war in Viet Nam was ginned up entirely for the benefit of the Military Industrial Complex. It might have been easy to go to Canada but it was also right. LINK

So you joined the USMC in the 1970s, is that right? What was your thinking in joining right after the Vietnam War, if you thought going to Canada to avoid that war was the right thing? No bullshitting here... I'm genuinely interested.

Was it a matter of having your faith restored by the Church Committee and the Democrats who retook Congress and reoriented U.S. foreign policy?

It is your position, you find it.

Actually, no.

I was mocking yours.

See above about not being able to follow a train a thought; how you respond to each post contents as its own independent statement.

quote:

You can start here:

Maybe you can. Declaring the federal government can conduct extreme acts of war without a war declaration (which is what your highlighted parts is referring to) doesn't mean the 10th amendment went away.

Why? Because the legal argument along those lines would stutter because one can counter argue that it isn't contradictory to Constitutional intent. The ruling was that Lincoln was well within his Comstitutional rights to do whatever he deemed needed to preserve the Union, because if you consider the states to be all under the Constitution then it follows that it is the President's explicit duty to uphold the integrity of the union from all forces, foreign or domestic.

It didn't change what he can do in peace time and the separation of powers in federal and state. That ball didn't get started rolling until Reconstruction, and didn't pick up speed until WW2 had courts validate sweeping federal government powers within states.

And to bring this post full circle regarding threads of thought, you are still debating this because you did not understand the original point: the mentality of the times of succession. You've wasted....how many posts? Three, four?.....cut and pasting and arguing semantics of legal decisions in 1862 to counter my general statement about sentiment and thought processes in 1860 and prior.

Marinate on the stupidity of that for a second.

Especially when you consider that segment was just a side statement to the point being driven at, which was left untouched. I could have omitted bringing up the 10th Amendment at all, and just pointed out the verbiage of referring to the US being plural as opposed to singular up until the Civil War, becoming essentially universally singular as the years went on. And my point would have been just as supported.

And then, to add icing on the cake, you revert to your default holier-than-thou attitude. You are just so adorable I can just pinch you.

Walt, first let me say, thank you for your service.

Now, how did you graduate UT in '81 and just make sergeant in '82?

With a degree wouldn't you be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant or a Warrant Officer, not an E-5?

What is the date of that letter? My date of rank to sergeant is 1/1/77.

I went to UT and graduated in 3.5 years. I graduated from Officer Candidate School on 8/14/81 and attended the Basic School class 8-81, which graduated in February 1982.

This picture was taken in October of 1982 in the Delta Corridor at 29 Palms. Yes I took it.

If you say it was dated '77 then it was just a misunderstanding on my part.

My apologies.

I just captured a different image of the letter. The previous image was showing on my screen because it is on my hard drive. I had no idea it wasn't going out.

My father liked that letter a lot. He also graduated from Parris Island.
