Marxism and corruption claims another large American city. Will prolly get a fed bail out at some point.

quote:

Texas will be asking you to “chip in” and “Tax payers should expect substantial rate and fee increases for at least the next 5 to 10 years”

Already overwhelmed with taxes and cost of living? The Government wants MORE ??

“You heard it straight from the mayor. Houston is broke.

On an annual basis, we're spending somewhere between a $150 million - $200 million more than is coming in. Very likely, what we're looking at is going to the voters this November, to say, hey. Here's the plan. Here's what it's gonna cost, and we're asking you, uh, to chip in.

Tax payers should expect substantial rate and fee increases for at least the next 5 to 10 years.

We're in a little bit of a crisis, and we have to do this to try to see if we can rebound.

One way or another, you are going to have to pay for it.”

Massive waste and huge pension funding is the issue here.

Being a government means never having to say you have to cut services… unless it means securing funding for a pet project by threatening essential services.

The poors that live inside the city, benefit the most from government funding/spending by way of tax credits, welfare, etc., just keep trucking along while the middle class continues to get squeezed. Because let’s face it, the millionaires living inside 610 are completely unaffected by 10%

I wonder if trying to house and feed masses of illegals on the government dime is contributing to Houston’s problems

How much is Houston spending on illegals alone?

And living outside the beltway isn't going enough of a buffer.

Saw this yesterday and decided to look for the city's financials. I couldn't find anything in the reports indicating the city is broke.

Not sure what the right source data is, so someone let me know if they do.

Was so glad when Lee Brown left Atlanta for Houston despite all his educational credentials he was basically a functioning retard. I'm sure the current Houston mayor is just as inept.

The surrounding cities that were annexed should oppose and or file suit to reclaim their corporate charters. Houston is too big to be in that much debt without it being just too big to responsibly manage. Break it up.

When Houston was annexing it's surrounding neighbors they said it was because they needed the additional tax base. Obviously they have other issues other than the tax base not being big enough.

houston is so fortunate to have whitmire as mayor instead of shiela jackson lee. shiela would have destroyed the police department to balance the books.
