Well, Mexico and Venezuela are rich in natural resources but Mexico is Caucasian controlled (but Venezuela is not).

The problem is his statement also comes with the theoretical hypothesis of swapping people based on race and expecting the exact same outcomes.

Outcomes are much more closely tied to systems of government than anything else.

If you put our form of government in place in Venezuela they would thrive with the same people that live there now

Sounds to Me like you can’t give an example.

Care to elaborate on why?

why are we discussing countries with oil and boundless natural resources to tiny islands with limited resources as if they are one-in-the-same?

How’s Japan doing?

You know.... that tiny island country with very limited natural resources?

We can compare these places to japan if you’d like.

So Puerto Rico or Haiti to Japan is a fair comparison in your mind?

More apt than comparing them to the USA.

After all, Japan had the same issues as these other small islands. They were years behind in terms of technological innovation. They lack natural resources. The white man came over and forced them to open up and took advantage of them.

How is Japan not an apt comparison?

Oh idk. A number of centuries of forging a national identity and a homogenous population seem like some good differences to start with.

And the point wasn't to say PR and Haiti aren't failed states. But surely there's is a story different from the Mexico's and Brazil's of the world. So I ask again, why the lump?

Sooooooo are you saying the people of Haiti and Puerto Rico didn’t have centuries to forge a national identity with a homogeneous population?

Would you like a shovel to help dig that hole you’re in buddy?

Homogeneous culture and race sure do help

Oh. And a willingness to adapt the western way of life.

Didn’t say otherwise. Immigration is fine.

Unfettered immigration leads to the downfall of empires.

Cheap drugs, hookers, and the ability to buy your way out of legal trouble is attractive to a lot of people.

What hole is that? You seem to think I'm here to say that PR and Haiti aren't failed states.

Only a fool would suggest they faced similar circumstances, though.

How are Haiti and Puerto Rico different than Japan.
