Plenty of reasons to have a fortification in the Gulf at that time.

Yes, I am well aware of the Monroe Doctrine. It applied WITHIN REASON.

So WAS a Fort right THERE, absolutely necessary? OR the biggie -- was it even possible to build in 1846? IN THE WATER.

Once again, what about:

"LOGISTICS"?? ENGINEERING"?? INFRASTRUCTURE? MATERIEL? (Transported to the middle Gulf of Mexico).

Again...16 million bricks. (by BOAT??) In 1846.

How about building a fortification on an actual high and dry island?? Or considering that a 16 million-brick Star Fort that just wasn't possible to built by THOSE people, at THAT time?

Was there on Dec 27. It is an amazing place to visit. Didn't encounter any aliens.

Seriously??

The land on which this "Fort" was built was...literally -- a sand bar. Sitting IN a Gulf of Mexico bath.

IF there was any "We need a fortification" consideration, there are several Florda Keys built on actual land.

How many bricks could an average mid 19th century cargo vessel carry? I don't know. Do you?

He's also acting like they delivered all 16 million bricks in December of 1846

They were still delivering bricks 30 years later when they stopped construction.

Ok, you win.

Zolak from Planet Vulcan beamed down into the 19th century Gulf and directed the Corps of Engineers on how to construct this "stargate" (if you will) portal, using superior alien design and construction techniques.

As a bonus, he even beamed the 16,000,000 bricks from Maine to the Tortugas, using his transporter.

Is that it?

To what extent were you about to inspect the facility and "float" around? Restricted, organized tour?

Any "wow!" impressions"?

I have no clue why you think this was impossible to build.

quote:

IN THE WATER.

It is not "in the water". It is surrounded by water. The fort is built on land.

quote:

THOSE people

Humans were fully capable of building far more advanced structures than basic fortifications in 1846. This is not even a feat of logistics, engineering, infrastructure, or materials. This fort is not unique other than its picturesque location in what is now a national park. Many, many, many nearly identical structures exist throughout the eastern seaboard.

It was simply not difficult to ship bricks, unload them, and construct a building with them. To the extent it took time to procure and ship the required materials----construction took more than a decade.

This thread is such a stretch.

I've been there too man. It isn't hard, most people who go to Key West more than once take a day trip.

All of the Keys are "sand bars" if that is how we are going to characterize them. Are there are other forts in the Keys and south florida. This one (the largest in the Keys) was the most strategically placed closer to the shipping lanes used to enter the gulf.

Ocean vessels headed in or out of Gulf ports had to pass the point where this fort is before getting there. They probably didn't travel a lot between the keys due to the shallow reefs there either. They'd make the turn close to where this fort is, though.

No. I'm mocking you.

It's been explained to you within this thread. You just choose not to hear it.

Be clear.

What EXACTLY are you trying to say?

Spell it out. Clearly. In detail.

I mean, it seems his contention that it was some sort of fantastical logistical feat. I'm just asking how he's coming to that conclusion, and assume he most know the answer to that question.

A sailing force trying to reach the west coast of Florida would run right into this thing... You don't think that's of strategic importance?
