The problem is that they will say this culture is the fault of everyone else.

It is simply the go to play for them.

I went to a top tier high school in Louisiana. Had a black friend that was graduating and wanted to go out of state to another much higher rated SEC school. The counselor (a black woman) told her “no, just apply to southern or something similar. It’s for your own good. You won’t make it at that school.” Thankfully my friend ignored her, put in all the work and went to that school with loans and pell grants.

She’s a legit lawyer now, and it pissed me off that the same counselor would never have said such a thing to an equivalent Asian student.

True African Americans (new immigrants) know they’re fortunate to be in America. Blacks born in the US are taught by Prog/Dim leftist teachers they’re being oppressed and are entitled.......particularly to reparations. Lol!

Have a niece that went to private school her entire life and graduated from Florida State. Joined some teacher of America thing and they shipped her off to some shite hole in Mississippi. Bleeding heart trying to save the world. Don't think she even made it a year.

I had a cousin do the same thing and taught a year in Bessemer, AL. She lasted a year and quit.

They actually appreciate the opportunities here in this country instead of being told that systemic racism will prevent them from being successful. And they also know what real oppression and poverty looks like.

This is true.

Look, I love Grambling State University because it allowed close family members to get a college education during a time where they couldn't legally go to a school like LSU.

That said, how frickING DARE a counselor tell a student to forgo a world class education at Stanford for the sake of Grambling in the year 2020.

That person should have been fired on the spot.

Could a culture and a people be severely damaged by a few hundred years and several generations of utter oppression and deprivation?

The reddit post states that 6 guys followed him to his car with knives and threatened him, then the verbatim response from the principal was to claim that’s their culture and to give an extra credit assignment. Everyone is just swallowing this line with no second guesses? That doesn’t seem like an exaggeration to anyone?

It appears to be damaged primarily by 50 years of coddling as evidenced by single parenthood rates over time.

Yes.

And 100 years from now, they’ll be in the same place they are today unless they participate in society.

This is definitely the case, as I've noticed the same thing anecdotally. They value family, work ethic, and education more than anything. Many seem to be truly appreciative of what kind of opportunities America affords them.

Definitely true. I also think it’s really cool how they help each other out. For instance, one guy I knew came over here on a student visa, supported financially through a government scholarship from his home country for high-achieving students. He graduated near the top of our engineering class, got offered a research assistant job and got his masters. Got sponsored for a work visa, applied for citizenship, married his girlfriend and brought her over, had everything going for him. He could have just kept all the money for his own family but instead they kept living in a cheap apartment, owned a single used car, and shopped at Food4Less. They saved their money and soon paid for his brother to come over and start school, letting him live with them for free all 4 years. I’ve lost touch with him since, but I’d imagine he’s still doing the same, living simply, saving money, and helping others from his home village.

For the most part, we only see the Africans who are well-connected and intelligent enough to negotiate their way through the visa system to immigrate here legally. Unlike our neighbors to the south, they can’t just hop a train, hide in a van, or climb over a wall ti get to the US. They are largely self-selected for success in the West.

They also are escaping the dysfunction of their own countrymen. Based on current IMF estimates, Ghana is 126th in per capita GDP, while Nigeria is 131st.

I know an educator who has had a knife pulled on her multiple times. Only once did it result in expulsion.

The guidance from the dept of Ed on discipline and race is very counterproductive to having safe schools.

Not really. Look at the results of billions of dollars spent on inner city education in predominantly black schools and we’ll have a substantive discussion. The test results in basic math and English is horrendously bad.

Would you have rather lived in the United States the past 100 years or Uganda? How about the DRC? Why is it that African immigrants have lesser problems adjusting to life here when their governments were objectively more oppressive than ours?
