When there is no one at home that cares, this is what you get.

But, they think it’s someone else’s problem.

Stop with the mandatory school attendance. Once they’re 14 or 15 and they don’t want to keep going, they quit. They’re not learning anyway. Maybe the ones who do come can actually learn.

I've had teachers and administrators in the EBR school system tell me similar stories, and believe every word that man wrote.

Single motherhood + absent fathers + welfare system that basically empowers this state of being. THEN on top of that, a culture that doesn't value education or being civil. Being the big dog on top is the most important value, being hard, and killing your enemies.

So that was posted before the George Floyd death, right?

I wonder how it would be received if posted now.

Absolutely nothing will be done in our lifetimes to solve this

You basically just have to hope you’re far enough removed to not be affected by it

But then you have inner cities in America where hundreds of millions, if not billons , are pumped into the educational system, tutoring, 2nd chance, 3rd chance, 8th chance. What what do we have to show for it?

It’s billions.

Just St. Louis public school budget for one year is $396M. And that’s just Saint Louis city schools. A city of 300,000.

Per student, St. Louis public schools spends $18,476/student per year (including debt and capital expenditures).

I’ve known several African immigrants from college and also professionally. They are almost universally hard-working, humble, and intelligent professionals who value their families more than anything. They also put in way more hours studying than me or any of my friends ever did because education is that serious to them- it means the difference between a good life in America or whatever life you can scratch out in Africa.

This is definitely the case, as I've noticed the same thing anecdotally. They value family, work ethic, and education more than anything. Many seem to be truly appreciative of what kind of opportunities America affords them.

Here's an article from a few years ago discussing data showing Nigerian immigrants to be the most educated in the US.

African blacks have scorn for many American blacks for the same reasons that many whites do. It ain't got shite to do with racism.

My Ghanaian friends are crushing it in the US. VP at an investment bank. Research doc for a pharma company. Professor of engineering. Salesperson for a medical company. Amazing what happens when you want to succeed.
