and drowning.
In a pond? With a group of other kids to pull them out?
I guess a comet could fall out of the sky and hit one of them on the head, too, but I'm commenting on what's actually most likely to happen.

You would need a massive piece of land to spread the kids out far enough. Not true with fishing. Public water is everywhere and two boats can be within 30 yards of each other.
There is an Outdoor board, you know?

I know that in some areas there are Youth Hunter Education Challenge teams around the state of Louisiana. I know Terrebonne has a large group. Some times they will host meets at local rifle ranges for different activities like shooting clays, archery, wildlife identification, trailing, etc.
It is not just a boys activity, girls are out there too.

Maybe you should homeschool. Then he could hunt every morning before starting his lessons

You want to force schools to have hunting clubs? You and your son sound entitled.

Because hunting involves killing and anything involving killing should never be a competition

Obviously the insurance companies see a much higher potential for negative consequences than the chance of a comet coming into play. Are you saying the insurance companies are ripping off these competitive fishermen?

Several people can fish the same water. People can't hunt the same land

If it is deer hunting there probably isn't a ton of "skill" involved to make it a competition. You could be the most experienced hunter around and a big buck never comes within your sight that day. Or, it could be your first hunt ever and a 10 point strolls right into shooting distance. Is one hunter "better" than the other just because he killed a bigger deer? Or is he just fortunate the big buck came to his area that day?
And I don't think it would necessarily be a good idea to have a bunch of kids walking around the woods, racing against a clock, to try to kill the biggest deer if you took them out of stands. That seems like the perfect scenario to get a kid killed.
If it is duck, squirrel, rabbit or any animal like that then how do you score it? Most weight? You'd almost have to because state law has limits on the number of animals you can kill. Thus, is it really all that competitive if multiple people all reach the limit?
Fishing has limits too. But often times the fish caught are thrown back after. And if you catch a small fish you can throw it back immediately. You can't "reverse" killing an animal that is too small.

Hunting isn’t and shouldn’t be a competitive sport.
