It certainly could have been any issue, but the issue was slavery.
This is like saying we went to war with Japan because of Pearl Harbor. You can make that argument; you can point to speeches that mention the attack, etc etc etc, but the truth is we were going to war with Japan eventually. Saying it was over Pearl Harbor is both true and such an oversimplification that it’s almost false at the same time.

They can’t separate the moral issue of it from the economic issue surrounding it. Yes slavery was a big issue for the war but not because of morality. The north wanted a subservient south dependent on its type of economy.

That is a major problem, real history, the good and the not so good is not longer taught in schools today.
Can you imagine a history class teaching what Lincoln really thought about slaves!!
How about the fact the Grant owned slaves!
This is why I hate that, in 2020, we still have people picking sides. This war was a national tragedy. There was no true winner, as evidenced by just the events of the last month.
To apply the lazy logic of "Union good, Confederacy bad" or vice-versa, shows a total disregard for history and human nature IMO. There were good, but flawed men on each side of this conflict, as there have been throughout the history of mankind. How dare we judge them by the standards of modern society 150 years later.
Societies evolve by learning from the past transgressions of all, not by erasing the inconvenient truths of a few.

The only real reason: "I'm fighting because you're down here".
Lincoln wasn't going to let the Empire shrink. Period.

Most logical explanation I’ve ever heard(judging by today’s media I’m assuming real reason for Civil War are lies by now) for North and South both to be motivated to kill brother was money
Agrarian South was getting taxed too much by North and like Boston Tea Party, the South began to fight for freedom from taxation
Then when Northerners began to tire of dying to keep government stealing from South, Lincoln the persuasive speaker, sold North on those filthy Southerners were abusing blacks with slavery for all, where it was probably just a small number of Southerners with slaves.
Southerners were fighting entire Civil War to be free from North. We’d still do it! Motivation to be free from North will never die in South
That makes the most sense to me
As I said originally though, we’ll never know the pulse of 1861-65 as what’s been told about it has been a lie since first words written about reasons for Civil War

It’s crazy how horrible of a job the school system does of teaching history.
Maybe it’s not crazy. It’s an agenda. It’s a full time job correcting the history they teach my children in school.
Good thing is that it keeps me reading constantly.
Lincoln was a tyrant. What he allowed his generals to do to small unarmed and non important towns was the doing of a war criminal.
But you can’t say that because people are so dense they will think saying something bad about Lincoln means you are pro slavery.
These times drive me crazy man.
