I think there was already a lot less soybeans planted this year because of what happened last year. The problem is farmers have to plan ahead having no idea what policies will affect them or how.

For god's sake, please do NOT be so obtuse. Life is not black or white. Buying crops is not a permanent plan. When a war is occurring, you have to do temporary things to win the fight. Once China is brought to its knees, proper economics will be followed. It is clear that you are purposely ignoring this fact.

Soybeans are going to be depressed without the trade war this year.
China has lost almost all their hogs to ASF - they have so little need to import soybean based animal feed additives it is crazy.
Of course the Chinese are going to start importing our pork, poultry, and even beef by the end of the year...

1. The govt has been buying surplus grain for over 100 years.
2. Grain doesn't go bad like bananas. It's great for storage in case of drought. This is especially important since our livestock eats more grain than our humans.
3. Grain as an export to LDC's = leverage. LDCs be bad, they get no grain.
