They've recently come out with this talking point of how black slave ownership was almost wholly a matter of freed slaves purchasing their own family members and somehow being legally unable to free them. High school students are not prepared to engage in master’s level historical evaluation. They will simply regurgitate the information they are fed and that which pleases the teacher.

In fact, letting them think that they have enough life experience and gathered information to make meaningful and significant opinions about deeply contextual and contemporary moral questions is actually harmful.

Partially because of responses like your own. "Well, this is what the teacher wants to hear so I'll say it."

It's why, I am so against the tactic of using the left's language even when mocking them. Stop using the language of the left. It only moves the Overton Window leftward, even if used in a mocking way. Defend your beliefs and stances. Hell, a 12 year old kid and his parents just did it in Colorado in regards to the Gadsden flag. Stop capitulating to the left.

Time for a meeting with a teacher who I can only assume has a streak of color not appearing in nature in her hair.
