"Protests which occurred in the United States during the summer of 2020 after the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor can be partially blamed on the Founding Fathers' handling of the slavery question back in 1789.

Do you agree or disagree with the statement above? Justify."

I hosted the screenshot of my daughter's iPad using Imgur, but I can't get the image to post here. So I quoted it verbatim. My apologies.

What do you all think?

My view is that these are questions of policing methods and I would like to know why this is even a topic in an AP US History class on the US Revolution. So far this is what I have in my email to the teacher.

It is a trap and if you call BS on the question the grade will not be favorable...

Wait so is it posed in a way that they want your daughter to agree or disagree with the statement and write a supporting argument for her answer?

The teachers political bias is showing.

Inappropriate question.

But your daughter is the one that has to deal with the teacher. Is this something she wants to address?

Partially? Yes, VERY partially.

If not for the 3/5 Compromise, the United States would never have been founded. In all likelihood, two different nations would have emerged from the 13 former colonies. In that event, George Floyd would never have existed, and Minnesota would still belong to France.

I was thinking that. But I can't in good conscience just let her answer the way he wants it answered.

Her response to me was "I don't understand what that has to do with slavery". I told her that's exactly how she should answer it. But I'm going to address this with her teacher. Evidently, I have to keep a close eye on what's being taught.

In an intellectually honest world, I would have enjoyed a question like that.

Neither, while I do not know the Po Po where Floyd was from I do know Da Ville Po Po and it has more to do with cops. Ex military modern cops work one way, old school beat cops work another. I am old enough to know the difference.

Nope, it can DIRECTLY blamed on the court system and their refusal to hold anyone accountable.

Peaceful protest is far different than Riots, we had riots and not protests

No. And she's confused. She's 15 and I raised her to not care about skin color.

I still don't understand how this effects the interaction between police and Floyd or Taylor for that matter some 250 years later.

I would if I could without hesitation. But I'm a single dad of 3 and have to work full-time.

I feel for you, and worry about my 11 year old.

I doubt there's anything an email would accomplish outside of potential placing a target on your daughter's back. While it's an inappropriate question, I doubt the school will think it's way out of bounds and step in, and Progressives educators aren't known for backing down.

She can answer it the best she can, or give the answer she thinks the teacher wants.

No good options imo.

I can guarantee that if she doesn't blame the Founders and agree that the nation was founded upon racism that the grade will not be good.

Same.

While there are some police interactions that contain racial elements, neither Floyd and Taylor's case did. Just because there's a questionable interaction doesn't necessarily mean race played a role.

I agree. But as of now, her answer is that she doesn't understand what those incidents have to do with slavery. Which is the truth and are her words anyway.
