So much mental energy is devoted to the wrong points of emphasis in this debate.

The focus should be on the establishment and maintance of health/happiness. Much of that is dictated by lifestyle and nutrition.

Themes:

Pleasure vs happiness
Health /wellness through connecting, contributing, and cooking
Health was traded for convenience/modernity

Making these changes are bad for business / the economy. Hence, perverse marketing/advertising leads people in wrong directions (hence the hacking /mind control angle). Also, this is why solutions that are proposed (to provide services for after the fact sick care) will not work as the dismal metabolic and mental health of our country is going to bankrupt it....

The good doctor has many pearls. I do not agree with everything he says, but his meassage regarding health is spot on.

Even if you do not agree with his politics, it is a good listen. Stay strong and healthy PT

Relates to above. A window into how the asylum (or wall if you will) is built...

The Atlantic

quote:

Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation? More comfortable online than out partying, post-Millennials are safer, physically, than adolescents have ever been. But they’re on the brink of a mental-health crisis.

quote:

Psychologically, however, they are more vulnerable than Millennials were: Rates of teen depression and suicide have skyrocketed since 2011. It’s not an exaggeration to describe iGen as being on the brink of the worst mental-health crisis in decades. Much of this deterioration can be traced to their phones.

quote:

Sleep deprivation is linked to myriad issues, including compromised thinking and reasoning, susceptibility to illness, weight gain, and high blood pressure. It also affects mood: People who don’t sleep enough are prone to depression and anxiety. Again, it’s difficult to trace the precise paths of causation. Smartphones could be causing lack of sleep, which leads to depression, or the phones could be causing depression, which leads to lack of sleep. Or some other factor could be causing both depression and sleep deprivation to rise. But the smartphone, its blue light glowing in the dark, is likely playing a nefarious role.

I have read that it is better for our sleep cycles if cell phones are not present in the room during slumber.

Blue light like that from smartphones linked to some cancers, study finds
By Mark Lieber, CNN
Updated 4:41 PM ET, Fri April 27, 2018

quote:

(CNN)Exposure to the kind of blue light emitted by outdoor LEDs, smartphones and tablets may increase your risk of breast or prostate cancer, a new study suggests.

The study, published Monday in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, compared previous exposure to artificial lights at night between approximately 2,000 breast or prostate cancer patients and approximately 2,000 controls living in Barcelona and Madrid.

quote:

Blue light has a shorter wavelength than other light in the visible spectrum, meaning it has more energy than other types of visible light. Exposure to blue light is known to decrease the release of melatonin in the brain, which helps regulate the body's circadian rhythm, according to Knutson.
"Blue light is the spectrum that signals the clock in the brain, and it is the spectrum that suppresses melatonin," she said. "Melatonin is a hormone that plays an important role in maintaining the synchronization of the clocks in all our body's cells. Disruption of these clocks is thought to increase the risk of cancer."

quote:

Melatonin is also known to act as an antioxidant, and adequate levels may be necessary to suppress the growth of certain hormone-sensitive cancers such as breast and prostate cancer, according to Sánchez de Miguel.

A multigenerational effect...

“Disillusioned"

(Dopamine, on dopamine...)

We have been overrun by our animal desire
Addicts of the immediate keep us obedient and unaware
Feeding this mutation, this Pavlovian despair

We've become disillusioned
So we run towards anything glimmering

Time to put the silicon obsession down
Take a look around, find a way in the silence
Lie supine away with your back to the ground
Dis- and re-connect to the resonance now
You were never an island

Unique voice among the many in this choir
Tuning into each other, lift all higher

(Dopamine, on dopamine...)

Willingly been re-wired by clever agents within
Looping our reflections, our obsessions draw us in
Fix and fixation, no sentience beyond

We've become disillusioned
So we dive like crows towards anything glittering

Time to put the silicon obsession down
Take a look around, find a way in the silence
Lie supine away with your back to the ground
Dis- and re-connect to the resonance now
You were never an island

Unique voice among the many in this choir
Tuning into each other, lift all higher

So much truth to this, and I preach it all the time.

Our whole healthcare system, and philosophy for that matter, focuses on treatment rather than prevention.

Tell me, in what other disciplines are you taught almost exclusively how to fix something after it's failed rather than preventing it from failing in the first place?

There's a very clear reason why our healthcare costs are astronomically high.

I love this. People are starting to see the reality of our “sick care” system and are ready for something different. What are some of your favorite sources of health-related information?

I’ve been getting emails from this guy, and he seems legit, but I haven’t taken the time to thoroughly research him.

CBD has the ability to revolutionize human health care. Non-psychoactive products of the hemp plant are of great benefit to the human organic system.

Go to Whole Foods or somewhere that sells hemp seeds (shelled) and include that in your diet. Remind me again why for so long we have outlawed a plant that provides almost ideal levels and proportions of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids? Oh yeah--"war on drugs!" (plants).

The best part of it is the disallowance of proper studies of organic materials for the benefit of the health of man. Humans were evolved to be symbiotic with plants as our waste products feed them and vice versa. Try buying local vegetables and fruits (farmer's markets) if you can.

Also, eating less is more. It has been unequivocably proven that lower caloric intake is associated with longer average lifespan in all vertebrate species.

From a different thread, but fits here...

quote:

We violate circadian restrictions. We have not out evolved the need for sleep (the need to be unconscious, paralyzed and floridly psychotic (in a sense) for 8 hours each day. This places us in a very vulnerable position for predation. Something vital must be ongoing. Indeed that is the case (but most dismiss sleep as being essential only to the weak). Reflect on that meme...

Our physiology is directly tied to the sun/light

Phones/electronics and light pollution are destroying this balance above

Following up on this to finish my thoughts

America's biggest problem | Kirk Parsley | TEDxReno

TEDx Talks

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. America has an ENORMOUS problem that most of us don’t know we have. We’ve heard about this problem, but we don’t think it’s impacting “us” individually. We have a very simple, but not so easy way to fix this problem. But, if we all act collectively, we could literally change the course of America.

Dr. Kirk Parsley served as the Undersea Medical Officer at Naval Special Warfare Group One (NSWG-1) from June 2009-Jan 2013. While there he developed and supervised the group’s first sports medicine rehabilitation center. He is a former SEAL (BUD/s class 164), and a graduate of the military’s medical school in Bethesda, Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) in 2004. His internship was in Obstetrics and Gynecology, at Balboa Naval Hospital in 2005. He then completed a Navy residency in Hyperbarics and Diving Medicine in 2006.

Doctor Parsley served as Naval Special Warfare’s expert on Sleep Medicine, and has been a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine since 2006. He is certified in hormonal modulation (Age-Management Medicine) and has worked as a consultant for the Life-Wellness Institute, in San Diego. Doctor Parsley has lectured extensively on sleep, wellness, and hormonal optimization. He is currently completing a book on sleep optimization.

Look to the true "elite" to guide your path...

Here is the rub...
To "fix" these issues, you would have to severly hamper the current societal constructs and the economy

This would be political suicide

Hence: no government, politician or policy is coming to save you/us

Save yourself...

Everyone should look up info on hormesis. Too much info and too fascinating to me to go into it more than that so I'm not going to.

I both love and hate these topics. Fascinating to me but no one really wants to get into the weeds and have good discussions so it becomes a waste of time. It takes effort to understand all of this. And much of the research out there is plagued by numerous errors that people just aren't aware of. retractionwatch is a good site, as is pubpeer.

Matthew Walker on JRE was really good. Also liked Attia.

ETA - RE ted talks.
LTG Hertling also gave a Ted talk, on obesity. Dude is a pretender and a showboater. Talks about his background in exercise science. He was tasked with revamping the Army's physical fitness program and did a half arse job. He had the chance to really propel it forward and did nothing but move it laterally.
