CNN Poll: 7 in 10 say economy in good shape -- and Trump may reap the benefits

quote:

Overall, 71% say the nation's economy is in good shape, the highest share to say so since February 2001, and the best rating during Trump's presidency by two points. A majority give the President positive reviews for his handling of the nation's economy (51% approve), and his overall approval rating has ticked up to 42% in the new poll. The 51% who say they disapprove of the President's job performance overall represent the lowest share to do so in CNN polling since the start of his presidency.

This is just my opinion, but the amount of people who weigh his tweets more than the actual results is disappointing.

Sure my wages are rising and jobs are plentiful, but my gosh that tweet was so mean!

It’s important to remember this is CNN poll. Trumps approval is probably closer to 75% with the economy with 25% having no clue what they are talking about.

This is his number one problem. It's not the media attacks on him, I don't really believe people give a frick what the media tells them despite the narrative that it has an impact.

The amount of people who act like this all magically happened on January 20, 2017 is more disappointing imo. The economy had been doing fine and Trump has continued that trend, even improving in some areas. But his ego can't handle getting some of the credit, he wants everyone to think it is all magically tied to Trump and sadly some people believe him. Ftr I think the potus gets too much or too little credit for the economy depending on who is talking. Our country is set up so one man cannot have complete control over any aspect of govt

Anyone that lives check to check in the 45k - 140k range of income knows that their dollar is going farther. Utility bills are cheaper on account of the tax cuts which are also making paychecks go farther. This is after 8+ years of having that same check get smaller and smaller on account of rising prices.

that same group voted for trump bigly. As uje, its the economy stupid.

Which is great, but the point is it was already improving. From inauguration day to January of their second calendar year Obama had a 33% increase and Trump had a 26% increase during the same time period

Like our government, most people have a spending problem instead of a revenue problem.

Obama's last 2 years were absolutely flat, perfectly coinciding with the end of quantitative easing. You can look it up.

and Obama was coming out of a hole, would have gone up under anybody, Trump took off from a dead 2 year stop

While that may be true you DO have to take into account that the economy tanked hard at the very end of Bush's term and beginning of Obama's term. That obviously wasn't Obama's fault and he couldn't help that but to be fair you have to factor that in to make an apples to apples comparison.

It's much easier to achieve high economic growth at the start of a rebound from a bottom low point than it is to achieve relatively fast economic growth after a long period of very slow economic growth. When you throw in the fact that Trump managed to grow the economy at a similar pace despite rising interest rates and without the quantitative easing that Obama enjoyed it makes what Trump has done in the same time frame more impressive

Maybe so. I'd say getting us out of a terrible recession deserves some credit...whoever you want to attribute that to

Obama's economy was atrocious. You saying otherwise doesn't change reality.

Meanwhile, most economic metrics have improved under Trump, which he deserves credit for

But you saying otherwise somehow does? Lol okay...if you want to be intentionally ignorant to the facts that's a you problem. You can acknowledge that Obama wasn't a great president but the economy did improve under his watch
