Headed down south to the land of the pines. I'm thumbing my way into North Caroline.

Staring up the road and pray to God I see headlights.

I made it down the coast in seventeen hours

Picking me a bouquet of dogwood flowers.

And I'm a-hopin for Raleigh I can see my baby tonight.

So rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel
Hey, momma rock me
Rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
Hey, momma rock me

I'm running from the cold up in New England
I was born to be a fiddler in an old time string band
My baby plays a guitar, I pick a banjo now
Oh, north country winters keep a-getting me down
Lost my money playing poker so I had to leave town
But I ain't turning back to living that old life no more

So rock me momma like a wagon wheel

Today was the perfect day to cut out of work a little early on a Friday and crack open a ski.

better Old Crow song

Well my friends, I see your face so clearly
Little bit tired, little worn through the years
You sound nervous, you seem alone
I hardly recognize your voice on the telephone

In between I remember
Just before bound-up, broken-down
We drive out to the edge of the highway
Follow that lonesome dead-end roadside south

We're all in this thing together
Walkin' the line between faith and fear
This life don't last forever
When you cry I taste the salt in your tears

Well my friend, let's put this thing together
And walk the path with worn out feet of trial
'Cause if you wanted we can go home forever
give up your jaded ways, spell your name to God

It's a great song.. and really I agree with cajunangel, Old Crow's first version was the best.

Like I've said before on the music board, their first version just sounded so believable.

You could almost imagine the guy hitchhiking with blood still on his shirt.

That is a great song too, I heard Nora Jones cover it once. That was great.

Not sure that 2nd line in the last verse is correct though.
I thought it was : walk the path that worn out feet have trod.

I like Darius but his version of Wagon Wheel was just too slick.

I still liked it though.

Reminds me of a story:

Guy picks up a hitchhiker on a lonesome road at night.
Hitchhiker says “Wow, thanks man. Hitching is hard these days. People think think they might be picking up a serial killer!”
Driver says “You know I thought about that, but then I said to myself ‘What are the chances of two serial killers in the same car?’ “.

That CD was one of the most Free Sounding things I had heard in a long time.
No pretention whatsoever, and nothing to prove. And people ate it up.

Did he give it to you because he liked it so much, or because he didn't like it?

I remember giving my first copy to my aunt, because she loved it so much, when she heard me listening to it once.

I immediately went and bought another.
