If I am not mistaken, I believe that more people worldwide follow Christ than any other religious leader.

Caesar and Hitler... absolutely thought they were saving their nations. Read Mein Kampf, it is pretty clear. Caesar's reforms were popular in Rome....just not with the Senate.
