A few threads over the past month; he's kicking arse by not following Cuomo's or what other Dems are doing.

His Achilles heel will be unemployment - i think he will struggle with re-election because of how he has handle this crisis- people remember their money

DeSantis still isn't allowing short term rentals in a state that lives on tourism. He can go screw himself.

False, each county just has to submit a plan before they are reopening.

Has to be careful with short term rentals bc disgusting infected Yankees are going to flood FL.

So, you know i have been helping 100s of people with this right? Like the thousands of people who can’t get into DEO bc it’s a cluster FUVK (not DeSantis fault...i know) call me or my colleagues? Literally between the time I have been trying to respond, I’ve had three phone calls.

So yeah, I guess CNNs numbers are wrong ( i wouldnt know bc i don’t watch network news) but I do have inside information on how bad it really is and imho, DeSantis has lost the perception war

By trying to ensure the people in his state got back to work as soon as possible? Sooner that all of the "experts" wanted him to?

I guess other than just not shutting down at all....which virtually every state did in some form or fashion...what should he have done differently with respect to the economy?

Ok, to be open, I was not a DeSantis person before the primary- I wasn't actually a Putnam guy but I knew he was less "never trump" than DeSantis but once the primary was over, obvs I was RD all the way.

I like DeSantis, I feel his only blemish in the past year is how he handled the unemployment issue- he seems detached that his decision to shut down businesses has lead to 1.5M being unemployed and as such, hasn't inserted enough bandwidth to help people. (I know he was hamstrung with a shitty web portal that only handled 1k a day, but I think he has slowwalked decision that would help people)

As to the economy, listen...he has been brow beating the media for reporting models showing dire results to Florida, and they were wrong models....but if this wasn't a problem, why did he shut down our state? Why did he slow walk the phases to open us back up? why did he say that big retail stores (grocery stores and building supply) can function at 50% during the shutdown but only at 25% when he opened us back up?

I know these are nuances and I do like him but these things have hurt people financially and people will remember that....remember, he only beat a corrupt (now we know meth head) D by 33k votes....he didn't have a huge cushion to work with.

I believe short term rentals have been delegated to localities to make that decision, hence why the Panhandle allows them. De Santis is not standing in the way.

Each county has to ask DBPR for permission and that agency will give a yes or no....so technically, DeSantis is standing in the way

Florida is primarily a tourist industry. The unemployment in Florida will be all but completely vanished by the time he is up for reelection. He'll be remembered for standing firm in handling the nursing homes, retirement centers and VA Centers in a state occupied by senior citizens. All he has to do is point out the failings of the loon in NYC as evidence on how not to go about reacting to this type of event.

They could done far worse and elected the meth head doing boys in the hotel ...that would have been a real trip in Tallahassee during the last few months.
