At least now, if want want to take the time to figure out whether the test you're going to take is reliable and worth taking, you will have some frame of reference.
Island Buckeye is all puffy-chested because be found an article in the national Library of medicine. He didn't run a single calculation that would be useful to you in determining if the test you are thinking about taking would be worth the time and money.
The numbers I gave you were based on 5% prevalence, which was used in both the Miami and New York tests.
If you drop the prevalence lower, the false positive numbers would be even higher.
If that wasn't what you wanted to hear, that's your problem.

quote:You are deluded. My post was a comment on the completed Miami study. That was the point in time being considered.
Your BS post considers a snapshot in time.
quote:I was looking at the Miami test. I used the prevalence number the people who did the Miami study used.
When prevalence is low so is PPV. This is what you are referring to.
quote:That is just stupid. Tests done at a later time will be done with the figures that are current at that time. You think that is a revelation?
As number of tests increase so does PPV and your "facts" turn to shite.
quote:How was it agenda driven? It was a very inaccurate test? Should I have said something different?
when they are blatantly agenda driven.
So, specifically, what is not factual in my post. Don't come back with a generic B.S. answer. What fact(s) is wrong and why?
And, in general, was my advice to Wednesday correct? Should she check out the manufacturer of a test before she takes it? If she took same test used in Miami, and she tested positive, could she rely on that when deciding whether to interact with her father?

Legacy ER and Urgent Care Centers (I think just Houston & Dallas?) announced today they they have these tests available at all locations as of today. Think I will roll through the drive thru tomorrow.

Why not? Can’t slide a thermometer under your tongue or are you a rectal check guy?

Plenty of baws will volunteer to take it for you.
Doubtful it would be FDA approved though.

Piss on you too lady.
I’ve never had a blood test in my life that doesn’t tell me what concentration of whatever it’s testing for shows up, and what statistically it will tell me about what I’m being exposed to.
I think I’ll take the word of whatever doctor explains it to me when my results come in, as opposed to TexRidder.
This is last I checked, a political discussion board, and somehow Democrats have managed to make a
Virus political.
I’m just trying to be a good citizen and make sure I know what I’m walking around with, not win some
medical statistics contest.

Guess you did not either read or comprehend my response. It really is not that difficult.

Prevalence is a function of time.
ETA: Was going to respond to each of your points and decided better. You do not understand biostatistics and I have neither the patience nor the time to teach you. You are dismissed.

Prevalence is a function of time.
You can't give a reasoned critique of a single fact in my post. Not one.
Just another bulletin-board blowhard.

My wife had one today. She's been interacting with the general public as an essential worker this whole time. I'm surprised she tested negative. I don't completely trust the test.
My friend's father who is basically a hermit in rural Florida in the middle of nowhere, broke his hip and at the hospital he tested + for CV. How this old man back in the woods got it, but my wife who deals with the general public in a large metropolis doesn't have antibodies, I don't believe it.

My house was sick with something in January that had a lot of the same symptoms except for fever which is the big one. But it was a dry persistent cough that lasted weeks, sore throat, no sinus problems, 2 weeks between each other getting it. It seemed to get better about 3/4 of the way through then suddenly resurged like covid. My wife is the type that never gets sick, and even when she does, it doesn’t seem to bother her, but this hit her so hard she actually went to the Doc. Tested false for both flu and strep. I think this was going around in dec-feb and a lot of people had it.
I wish it was covid, but I don’t think it was else there would have been more nursing home and icu outbreaks. That and ours started with my mother who lives in the sticks on a hill in a pasture. Would be surprised if it made it that far in early January.
