Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it on to our children in the bloodstream". He noted that liberty must be constantly fought for, protected, and handed down so that future generations can do the same.

It was a compromise with rules, not a sweeping statement.

As the nation's attention turns back to the fractured debate over immigration, it might be helpful to remember that in 1986, Ronald Reagan signed a sweeping immigration reform bill into law. It was sold as a crackdown: There would be tighter security at the Mexican border, and employers would face strict penalties for hiring undocumented workers.

But the bill also made any immigrant who'd entered the country before 1982 eligible for amnesty -- a word not usually associated with the father of modern conservatism.

Americans by the millions lined the streets to say "Good Bye" when he passed. I have not seen anything like that before or since.

I guess you're right.

Yeah man. When Reagan took over the feeling was that we were losing to the USSR. We had stagflation, which was high inflation without growth. Our military was a shambles. Iran held Americans hostage. And the country was heavily divided.

When Reagan left office eight years later the USSR was one year from extinction, inflation was tamed, we were growing like crazy, real incomes were shooting up, our military was the unquestioned dominant one in the world, the Iranians gave back the hostages like they were hot potatoes on day one of his Presidency, and the country was no longer divided - not only did Reagan win a second term with almost 60% of the vote, but his VP won when Reagan left office.

But yeah, a disaster.

I know people like you and I have family members like you, your posts seem to always be focused on any negative you can think of regardless of the subject. You people thrive on negativity.

What a miserable existence. And btw, the people who you are around the most can’t stand you. They will never say it or act otherwise but I promise, they fricking hate you
