It’s insane you have to be 18 to join the military, 21 to buy alcohol or tobacco, but you’re perfectly capable of making the decision to permanently alter your body and render it incapable of reproduction at 12. I mean some kids haven’t even hit puberty by then, how can they know what they want? I remember as a child before puberty thinking girls were gross, but lo and behold puberty hits and hormones are an amazing thing. Then all you can think about is pussy

Allowing children to do this prior to puberty is insane. Your taking away something from them they’ll never get back. Now if they’re 18 and still want to chop their dick off or whatever, then by all means go do it.

Definitely some of both.

The law should be out of parents business.

The law should make people do what we think they should do.

The law should stop people from doing things we don't want them to do.

The federal government has no right to tell states what they can do.

We need federal oversight into states that do things we don't like.

We need federal oversight into states that don't do things we think they should do.

So, she's down for FGM then?

Letting the parents handle the situation seems appropriate.

I wish there was a way to protect the 12y/o without increasing govt power but I dont see how it can be done. Anything done with laws to prevent a kid from getting transgender treatment because it is medical malpractice or whatever could easily be used to force vaccinations on kids because not doing so would be considered the same.

These parenting situations suck because anything you do to protect kids from bad parents can be used to take kids from good parents. If parents have the freedom to be good parents they also have the freedom to be bad parents.

I am a big proponent of parent's rights.

that would be great if it can be done successfully without unforeseen consequences.

I think the best route would be make it illegal for doctors to do such things at all.
