I want to hear you prove the war was over slavery in the face of everything provided in this thread.

Confederacy seceded and directly cites the election of Lincoln and the anti-slavery sentiment

Union fights to stop secession to preserve the U.S.

Therefore, the root cause, being secession, directly cited slavery as the reason for secession, slavery was the root cause of the war.

Must have been another reason to fight that war….

To preserve the Union

Which was split amongst states that seceded due to slavery and states that stayed.

Therefore, slavery was the root cause

Root cause? Yes. But the South had no legal obstruction to leaving the Union. South Carolinas attack on a Federal installation gave the North a very thin cause but a cause none the less.

The side that fought to end slavery continued to have slaves until the ratification of the 13th, post war.

Meaning that the institution of slavery lasted LONGER on the side that, according to you, somehow, some way, was fighting to END slavery.

But only end slavery against those other guys! Ignore our slaves! We fighting to free all the slaves!***

That’s the only argument I’m trying to make

And this thread was about Haley’s gaff anyway.

Are you arguing that because they aren’t better off economically they should not have been allowed to choose?

Have you literally read any of my posts. I know as much about this topic as you most likely.

None of my posts are intended to be about the veracity of her answer.

What don't you get about this?

It was the south telling the north to frick themselves and trading their cotton to England. Thats why the north blockaded Charleston harbor. If the war was about slavery they would have started by marching south and hitting plantations.

No. You are arguing the north fought the civil war to free the slaves.

Yet the north had slaves.

How can the north be fighting a war to free slaves, when they have slaves?

Hmmmmmmmmmm….. do you think…..

Maybe.

Possibly.

Jussssstttttttt

Maaayyyyyyyyyyybe.

The north wasn’t fighting to end slavery but to retain the union?

Oh, no. I completely understand that the vast majority of Americans are functionally retarded and have to have their information spoon fed to them via 15 second tik tok clips where they are fed bullshite.

I just don’t give a shite about those functionally retarded imbeciles and I refuse to acknowledge their bullshittery.

It’s beyond time to stop playing into the retards fee fees and it’s time to have the grown ups back in charge.

Facts, not emotion.

The FACTS are, the civil war was fought over retaining the union. The civil war was NOT fought to end slavery and ending slavery didn’t become a war goal until the emancipation proclamation as a means to keep England and France from recognizing the confederacy.

Stop revisionist history. Stop giving into retarded peoples fee fees.

There's a time and place for nuanced discussion.

On stage at a Townhall in New Hampshire in late December in a Presidential Primary isn't the time.

This isn't about the truth its about politics and knowing the time and place.

Haley was deer in headlights as usual and missed a layup

You have literally spent pages dedicated to saying the war was fought over slavery.

Now you’re saying that isn’t what you’re saying.

I’ve never said that.

I said that slavery is the ROOT CAUSE of the war.

I’ve said in this thread already that most northerners didn’t give a shite about abolition and the radical republicans scared the shite out of them as much as they scared the southerners. Not many wanted slaves to be freed carte blanche and I wouldn’t have wanted them to be freed with no stipulations if I was living in that era either.

It was, but it was one reason. Its a nuanced discussion and there are many reasons it was fought.

If you are claiming it was THE ONLY reason it was fought, you are wrong.

If you are claiming it wasn't a reason at all, you are wrong.

Its a much more complex issue than what a snippet in a town hall can allow.

Which is why this is not about the TRUTH or VERACITY of what Haley said.

Its about politics and hitting layups and she failed miserably

Not the issue.

Indeed. They were goaded and went for the bait. Again though, not the issue.

The issue was Constitutional states' rights vs commitment of Northern states to comply with those components of the foundational union.

quote:

all before the South could better prepare
The only shot the South had was following up Bull Run 1 with an occupation of Washington DC, Maryland surrounds, and a negotiated armistice.

Given money, manufacturing, and population, time for prep served the North disproportionately.
