I think that the people of those nations, many of whom were actively fricked over by the Russians during the USSR period, will care.
I also think that the former Eastern European satellite nations, like Poland, will get nervous about being next. Christ, the Russians likely had a hand in crashing a plane which had most of the Polish elite on it a few years back, including the sitting President.
Again why do I care, you layed out why some others would give a shite but why should a poor boy from MS give a shite. It aint resources as some others claim, these are some of the poorest countries in Europe. Russia gains little more than millions of extra mouths to feed and millions of pissed off home grown terrorist if they keep this up. This was the whole reason they were let to leave in the first place. Putin is making his first major mistake in bringing these folk back into the fold.

One word - "control".
Each country that Russia either directly conquers or runs as a puppet is one less that is available to us the way things are going.
Doesn't directly mean much when it comes to Georgia, but it should when you start getting to former satellites like Poland which have huge steel and shipbuilding industries.
Those are the kinds of resources which contribute to fighting wars and Russia getting them means that we not only lose access to them, but a hostile power now has them.

You do realize Poland is part of the EU and has about zero % chance of being attacked?

If the US is counting on Polish shipyards to fight a wart we have already lost.

furthermore, EXXON and others should be restricted from developing the arctic for Russia (why this isnt being done is beyond me)
ExxonMobil is a corporation that is in it for the money, like all for-profit corporations. Hell, Standard Oil was selling oil to the Nazis until the US declared war on Germany.
quote:
Asked by an industry colleague if his company might consider building more refineries domestically, the better to protect the U.S. from potential gasoline shortages and security crises, (former Exxon CEO) Raymond shrugs off the question. “I’m not a U.S. company,” Raymond says, “and I don’t make decisions based on what’s good for the U.S.”
However, what makes XOM so significant in it partnership with Rosneft & Putin is that XOM has the expertise & technology to make IT happen. And how significant is IT? The Russians alone can not accomplish developing this.
See below.
quote:
The Universitetskaya structure covers an area of 1200 thousand kilometers with a 550 m high hydrocarbon trap. Its resources account to more than 1.3 billion tons of oil equivalent. A total of some 30 structures were found in three East Prinovozemelskiy areas of the Kara Sea, and the entire resource base of the three areas is estimated at 87 billion barrels or 13 billion tonnes of oil equivalent.
According to experts the volume of the Kara Sea oil province resources exceeds the oil and gas resources the Gulf of Mexico, the Brazilian shelf, the shelf of Alaska and Canada, and it will be comparable to the resource base of Saudi Arabia.

i read this same article a few weeks ago. Weve been putting sanctions on Moscow for months, now. This would be a really big one (sanction cooperations from oil exploration/drilling), hence my suprise we havent done it yet.

what are we going to do about Russia?
Let the country crumble on its own bc on the path it is on that's whats going to happen.
Also no matter who was our president in these current times and current options to lead the country, Putin would do the same thing regardless.

XOM would just move its corporate headquarters overseas and do as they like. Kinda like the Halliburton and Iran deal.
