It is well known on this site who I am and what my bonafides are. And they are pretty darn good. But no, I do not do kinetic missions with SEALS.

SFABs allow the Army to reduce, over time, the demand for conventional Brigade Combat Teams for combat advising. This will allow BCTs to focus on readiness for warfighting against near-peer threats
Not a mutually exclusive statement.
SF has been doing conventional work for decades for a lot of reasons. Some of which will be alleviated by SFAB. Once you get there, you will get it. Conventional brigades never had the ability to deploy in the configurations required to access many of these missions. They are also far less attractive to approving authorities.
Let's hope SFAB figures that out. For everyone's sake.

You know how young soldiers are though, they want to shoot things not train foreign nations to shoot things. I have experience and I’ll admit that was one of my worst/most boring deployments. How was your experience? I think some Marines actually took over for train advise and assist in southwest Afghanistan this last year if I’m not mistaken.

Then you would be making a mistake. Why don't you come back when you have more relevant understanding of this issue. Thanks for army times press clippings tho

That’s not Army times? I’ll go ahead and shoot you the multiple milpers and recruitment emails about it when I get to my computer.
In your previous post you said conventional brigades haven’t been able to do this structurally, yet Brigades as a whole have been doing it and I would know because I did it. That’s relevant

quote:Mine was enjoyable. I did mine in Eastern Europe, which probably helped me enjoy my experience. It was a mixed bag. I deployed as part of a Security Cooperation MAGTF centered around a company of reconnaissance Marines pluses up with a heavy wpns platoon(I was the platoon sgt. for the wpns guys) and a logiistcam and aviation element.

Some of our work was a task force or at least platoon sized elements that kept unit integrity. These were difficult because I was acting as a platoon SGT and instructor for the foreign units. Only my NCOs has the experience to actually teach anything so all the LCpls and below were just hangers on. Basically doing two jobs at once which sucked.
Sometimes we deployed a core group of NCOs and officers with different specialties to train units. I found this worked much better, was less stressful and we got much more bang for our buck.

That actually sounds awesome. Who were you training? I feel like that makes a big difference. We “trained” afghans, 4 week cycle from your basic indivual Soldier skills to platoon live fire. Complete shite show for the most part mainly due to the lack of care and resources the afghans had.

Your lack of understanding of the scope and purpose of SFA makes this conversation difficult. You don't quite grasp how many places and units are being worked with and what the overall intent of these missions are. I'll give you a big hint: Iraq and Afghanistan are a fraction of all the SFA requirements thst currently exist(most of Iraq and Afghanistan aren't even SFA) . BCT to Afghanistan, no problem. BCT to Lebanon or Egypt. .. Not so easy. That's why SOF has such a huge chunk of this problem. They can more easily get to the nooks and crannies where these requirements exist. It's also why SF has this as a dedicated mission set.
Again nobody is saying only SOF fan do it or that you didn't do it. Why you keep coming back to that is puzzling.

Most of my work was with Romanians. Did some stuff with Moldovans, Slovenians, Georgians and Bulgarians as well. Other guys did the Baltic and Balkan States.

I just don’t quite understand your logic here. Majority of SF is advising, that’s what they do and that what they are experts at. You are saying SFAB is going to curtail the main purpose of SF? What do you think SF do? You are comparing apples to oranges. Yes they both advise, but the have different advisory missions.

Sure it does. The longer we maintain them, the worse it gets.

Nope. I'm not saying that. I'm saying that SF has been advising units that could be advised by conventional forces. I WANT conventional forces doing these jobs. Not SF. Sfab is a great idea.
I am an SF veteran, BTW.
