Ebbandflow, why is it the job of the business owner to provide additional funds to guarantee a certain living standard, rather than society as a whole?

If a people truly think nobody should fall below a certain level, it should be he job of the whole community to pay funds for those people, not just the employer

so, you're alternative to cracking down on those cheating the welfare system is to let them do it anyhow because it saves us money?

I'm not saying it isn't society as a whole. But to exempt business from society as a whole is a little disingenuous don't you think?

I thought this was going to be about the spat between Gary Chambers and Silky Slim over Gary shaking down local businesses for money in exchange for not protesting them and claiming racism, but then using those funds for personal gain rather than investing them in helping the black community, or for Gary being caught being paid to lobby for Champion Medical right before a bunch of their executives were ensnared in a bribery scandal.

So what? If one person was saved from overdosing on drugs because they chose to quit so they could receive welfare that's a good thing, right?

If a business shuts down and someone has worked there for many years without a college education where are they supposed to work?

They find a new job and start at minimum wage. Most companies start people above minimum wage, but it is still very low.

They are not brain dead. They just got screwed when their company closed.

My ex-gurlfriend’s dad was a supervisor at a factory and had a really good salary when it closed.

It is hard for a person over the age of 50 to find good employment. That is why he works third shift at Wal-Mart.

Has there been some sort of crazy advancement in drug testing technology in the past couple of years?

Why didn't that person take the initiative and get a degree along the way.....you know for options?

Neither option "saves money". One just cost less. Removing or decreasing the entitlement would "save money".

If those are the only 2 options? Sure, I guess. That cost me less. And I don't personally give a shite about their well being or health, so don't care if they get high. Whether for drugs, or drug tests, that tax money is being wasted, IMO. I'll take the cheaper option.

I don't understand how any fiscally responsible person could look at past results for this program, in any state, and consider it a good financial decision.

It's feel good legislation. Something, apparently, liberals don't have a monopoly on.

One can acquire a lot of knowledge and skills over 50 years of life on this earth. It's terrible that he hasn't managed to acquire more than $7.25/hour in skills, but that sounds like his problem. I don't need to be paying taxes for a grown arse man to live off of.

Indeed, which is why working for minimum wage is idiotic.

Not sure if it's national, but in NC if you ever go over $2000 in your checking/savings combined, you stop qualifying for assistance.

This is why all the poor people spend their tax refund the second they get it.

There is 0 motivation for any of these people to save or try to better themselves.
