Sigh. Not even 48 hours.
This is what real conservatives like me were so worried about.
Prayer in schools is just an easy way to waste state money and time when the feds knock it down.
If you believe kids are the way they are because of a lack of religion in their lives, them listing to a prayer for 20 seconds a day isn't going to change that.
To extent we need God in our lives, we need Him in all of our lives.
And the pledge... a pledge doesn't make kids love their country. However, decent civics and history classes might.

Louisiana is last in everything good and first in everything bad is largely because of a lack of Judeo-Christian values in everything from our culture to our government. It’s a reflection of a lack of God, not too much God.
If you look around the rest of the country, they have a lack of Judeo-Christian values as well. There's a lack of God and religion all across the country.
And yet, we are still 50th in everything.
So, no, it's not a lack of Christian values that has us ranked last of the states.

It wasn’t for some 180 years or so of this country’s existence, and still isn’t for every day in Congress. Why now all of a sudden is it some horrible idea to begin their day in prayer, or if nothing else, allow them a time of silence to pray themselves or in groups?
They already have the ability to do the latter. They can even have voluntary student led groups that pray. They just can't have the teachers or administration imposing systemic expectations or endorsing a specific type of prayer, which is, of course, the correct application of the 1st amendment.
And just because we did something for 180 years doesn't mean it was constitutional and it certainly doesn't mean it was a good idea. We had slavery and then government imposed Jim Crow in this country for longer than that.

Pray at home with your kids. If you want prayer to Jesus Christ in schools, then send your kid to a private/church school. You don't get to mold my child, regardless of what you think. The pledge of allegiance is OK with me.

and is a good thing IMO.
So you're o.k. with your 6 year old child participating in Mormon prayers to Heavenly Father?
How about Jehovah's Witness prayers to Jehovah?
Jewish prayers to Yahweh?
How about Muslim prayers to Allah?
Catholic prayers to Mary?
Because all of those and more would be on the table.

quote:Agreed. By learning to say the pledge well before I was mature enough to understand what I was saying, it just became something I recited mindlessly and never gave any thought. At the very least you should be old enough to know what you're saying before pledging allegiance to anything.
a pledge doesn't make kids love their country.

Also have routine “prayer at the pole (flagpole)” mornings usually sponsored by FCA or local churches.
These happen a couple times a year around here. Nothing I'd call "routine."

Pledge should be mandatory
Meh, I’m not sure what the pledge actually accomplishes. Every adult said the pledge everyday growing up and the vast majority of those dumbasses think we have a democracy.
And what happens when someone refuses to say it? It gets into deep 1st Amendment territory quick.

We shouldn’t have a pledge of allegiance to a flag. It’s ridiculous that a free people must pledge fealty to a symbol. There are better ways to foster patriotism than foring children to monotonously recite a bunch of meaningless words every morning and by hanging up posters that say “In God we trust.” This, along with laws banning “flag-burning” are some of the most impotent and time-wasting “issues” out there. Our nation is over 130% debt to GDP ratio and our state has a more than $12 billion infrastructure backlog and who knows how big unfunded pension liability.

The pledge was written by a socialist who wanted to indoctrinate people to pledge obedience to mass wealth redistribution. If you're a Christian, pledging allegiance to a flag and a republic (for which it stands) is a blatant violation of the 1st commandment, especially given what said republic represents today.

Pledge of Allegiance? Yes
Prayer in school? Hell no.

If he wastes time and resources on these types of issues out of the gate then he’ll lose momentum on trying to fix the true needs in infrastructure and industry jobs that grow our tax base
If Landry even seriously attempts to improve infrastructure, industry jobs, tic., I will support him. Odds are against him doing anything serious for the state, but if he does, he gets the credit.

fricked up priorities.
First rule should be to kick all the kids who's parents dont value education out of the system.

No, we're not allowed to talk about what ails Louisiana, so we have to do other things.

Public schools should allow prayer by students and faculty if they so choose.
However the school itself should not discourage or encourage prayer.
Agree with all of this, but teachers and students shouldn't be encouraging or discouraging prayer, either.

Yep.
My parents supported not chanting mindless words that few understand. We opted out of holidays, chants, all kids of mass government participation.

What does that mean? Who isn’t letting you talk about the real problem?
Posted on 10/17/23 at 8:47 am to PatriotLSU65
Prayer in school needs to be put on the ballot! Let majority rule!
