The problem with the teaching profession is very simple:
The very best teachers and the very worst teachers make the same amount of money. That's not how capitalism should work.

Also factor in the results from the last few states that had statewide teacher strikes, I doubt blame them one bit
From Google, regarding teacher retirements
In Louisiana, public school teachers must work for 30 years at any age to retire with unreduced, full pension benefits. Depending on your age, you can also retire with full pay with fewer years of service:25 years of service at age 55
Let's look at this thing in the big picture, from the average voter that doesn't know everything a teacher goes through.
The average person will think this. A person teaches school from 22-55 and retires with full pension benefits, and live until 80. So they work for 33 years, half the year, and get a check for 58 years, plus health care benefits. Oh, and they get off at 330 every day. Then this average person gets on social media or watches the news and all they hear is bitching. Most people are gonna just say frick yall, whatever yall want, I am doing the opposite.

Yeah well the pay hasn’t increased like most job promotions
You must be a teacher. Because only an educator would be this out of touch. “Most” jobs aren’t seeing raises either. Nor bonuses. That’s why so many wage earners are frustrated. You civil servants think the private sector is immune to wage freezes and cuts a fat
hog in the arse every year. It doesn’t. Unlike you though, we also aren’t immune to layoffs and closures.
Sorry teachers feel they’re underpaid. But you knew the wage when you accepted the job, right? So why are you still in the industry? There has to be some other reason you stay.
And it ain’t because you’re so altruistic that you care about the kids. If it was you wouldn’t be threatening a strike.

If you have a teacher who genuinely cares about their students, it’s not an easy job. Sure, it’s not physically demanding but having to deal with the stress of not being supported by powers that be and decision makers truly sucks.
I have no doubt in my mind that the vast majority of teachers care about the students more than anything.
However, your wife, amongst other teachers, knew the pay before going in and the yearly continuous cycle of problems that will never go away. $2,500 or $25,000 will not solve those problems.

Abolish the public school system. It’s only a payroll factory.
