Camaro going out of production has been known for at least a couple years. This is not a surprise.

Buying tastes have changed and people would rather buy a tall car than something actually sporty.

Most of the layoffs are coming from their "Cruise" investment which was working on robotaxis. This has nothing to do with the government forcing them into EVs.

They have also chosen to end the production of the Camaro. There is still a market for muscle cars in the U.S. and GM did a poor job of capturing it. The challenger and mustang each nearly doubled up the Camaro the last couple years in sales.
