And Youngkin made Trump his bitch last year

quote:

Mr. Youngkin had, for months, navigated the narrow path between embracing the former Republican president’s policies without being drawn into a debate about Mr. Trump himself. The two men held private phone calls in recent weeks, but Mr. Trump hadn’t said anything about a trip to Virginia.

According to Republicans who recalled the moment from Mr. Trump’s home in Florida and Mr. Youngkin’s headquarters in Chantilly, Va., the statement sparked a series of calls between the two camps. The message from Mar-a-Lago: Mr. Trump knew one of his rallies wouldn’t help Mr. Youngkin, and the statement was only intended to troll the liberals and critics in the media.

Mr. Youngkin’s campaign went back to work; Mr. Trump continued to support him from the sidelines.

quote:

Mr. Youngkin’s strategy, which underscored the importance of tailoring campaigns to match the unique issues in each state, combined with Mr. Trump’s willingness to remain at least partly out of the spotlight showed how the former president and Republican candidates uneasily can coexist.

Trump wanted to go to VA to make it about him. Youngkin told him to stay the frick out of VA, and Trump pretended that Youngkin's name was Fauci and did what he was told. This led to Youngkin winning VA.

Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin and Trump repeatedly spoke by phone over the course of the campaign, according to people familiar with the conversations who were not authorized to speak publicly, allowing the two men to go the length of the contest without saying negative things about each other or clashing on strategy.

Trump, who is known for his public demands of fealty, allowed Youngkin to cast himself as his own man, declining to invite Trump to campaign with him and deflecting questions about his support for Trump’s more polarizing views in an effort to make inroads in the well-heeled Northern Virginia suburbs.

The former president instead stayed focused on turning out his own supporters — deploying his email and text message lists to coax his voters to the polls while refusing to acknowledge any daylight between Youngkin and himself. When Trump spoke about the race, he focused on core issues such as education and taxes, not the false claims about the 2020 election more likely to alienate moderate voters.

“I’ve gotten to know him so well and our relationship is so great,” Trump said about Youngkin, in a tele-town hall with supporters that was closed to the news media and public on Monday night. “The fake news media would like to say something else because they want our big, giant, beautiful base like there has never been before to not vote as much as they are going to.”

WaPo 2021

The underlined issue was dropped by GOP leadership these midterms.

It would help if you didn’t run 3 senator candidates in swing states that have never held a political office before. Democrats can do that, Republicans can not. A winning Republican has to show stability, there’s nothing stable about never holding a political office and asking voters to vote for you to become 1/100 of the most powerful people in the world. You can do that in predominantly red states such as Tubs in Alabama, but it’s a damn stretch to try that in swing states. As much as I hate Mitch, he knew those elections were a lost cause and that’s why he didn’t invest in them, but nows the time to invest in Walker, that runoff is winnable.

You say "making him his bitch" but when I read it I see working together.

Something the GOP leadership refuses to do.

Trump doesn't "work together", though.

You either "bend the knee" or you're an enemy, especially if it means you prevented Trump from getting press.

This week showed that

When Oz was running I said hat the time not even knowing Feterman was his opponent that, that was a lost opportunity. And I based this on the fact that Oz lives in New Jersey. Who the frick it going to vote for candidate that lives in another state? Makes no sense.

One is a governor and states are responsible for education.

The others are not. It would not come off as sincere.

He worked with Youngkin.

The first step is to call him. Then talk.

Stop attacking him and poking the bull from afar. Be the adult in the room and talk.

I get your point but you can still promote it as an issue and the feds control a lot of education funding to states. Make the GOP position known from the federal level and how you intend to vote on federal education appropriations.

I do think Melania told Trump to endorse him 100%

Nothing else makes sense other than Trump over-valuing Oz being on TV (like Trump was) over Trumpian policies.

As was stated earlier, CRT was 2021. Inflation/abortion is 2022.

The electorate doesn't give a shite about CRT as a topic this year. The battle lines are still drawn but less impactful.

I don't hate him. I don't like him. He's a politician. I don't mask my personal identity in a politician (or celebrity, or athlete).

The early era was fun but he was an ineffective, shitty President who was terrible in 2020 and somehow even worse afterwards.
