Girl accumulates $226,000 in college debt
If I start a business and it fails, does the government pay me back?

No, some of you are making statements based on perceived worth, that has zero to do with amount of job openings and demand.
It aint about emotion.
You need to take a few plays off, if you know what I mean.
"Perceived worth?" We're not "perceiving" anything. We're using what the market says they are worth, which is a median annual salary of nearly $80,000 LINK.
Is the market being emotional about them too?

Employment of speech-language pathologists is projected to grow 18 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations.
You have no idea what you are talking about.

I'm trying to add up what that would take.
that would mean tuition+books+labs was over 35K/year for 4 years and that is if she graduated in only 4 years. My guess is OOS tuition or private education without the aid of scholarships. Either way, she had a choice and made a poor one.
That is only a little over 140K for 4 years. So you would have to factor in rent, studying abroad, and maybe expenditures and that would mean she was spending 2K/month at least.
Think about that.

Nice . . . having some actual truth here.
Hate when people try to push a narrative (either way) here. They don’t need to do that to make a point.

speech pathologist are neither in demand
With the Boomer population aging, they certainly are in demand.

nor will ever have the pay structure to pay that off.
Speech Pathologists do very well for themselves. I have a degree in ComD, but it didn't cost me anywhere near $226k.

No, not vis-a-vis supply. It's the same with physical therapists. It's an easy curriculum so there is a huge supply of job seekers. The demand is limited so the requirement for occupation goes up just because there are so many qualified applicants.
It's like getting a degree in psychology. It's worth nothing except going to grad school for a masters. It's because any idiot can get a degree in psychology.
