Costs for delivery in early 2023 peaked at nearly 1,100 euros per megawatt hour in France on Friday. Ten times more than a year ago.
It’s from Le Monde, but you can use google to translate it.
France found some fissures in one of their nuclear plants and shut them all down pending inspection, hence the additional spike there, and will no doubt further burden Europe's lack of supply.

Germany has 5 floating LNG terminals connected by Jan 1st It's natural gas storage is on track to be 95% full by Nov 1
So they will be okay in 4 months, but the price 12 months from now will increase another 10 fold. Hmmm, hmmmm, hmmm

Traders are speculating. Remember how they were all proclaiming the profits of the subprime mortgage investment packages. What about how the world was going to be without fertilizer or food?

Driven by the imminent energy crisis accelerating across Europe, and policymakers' refusal to acquiesce because "we have to save democracy in Ukraine", the German paper industry is warning of supply bottlenecks for toilet paper.
quote:
For the "International Day of Toilet Paper" on Friday , the German paper industry warns of new bottlenecks.
Martin Krengel, Vice President of the Association "The Paper Industry", said:
“We are particularly dependent on gas for the production of tissue paper. Without it, we will no longer be able to provide security of supply,”
According to data provided by Die Papierindustrie, each German citizen uses an average of 134 rolls of toilet paper per year.
“In the current energy crisis, our top priority is to provide people with this important commodity,” Krengel stressed.

There is a 3rd coming online Jan 1. Two more in 2023.
Troll field off Norway is making bank trolling Putin by selling lots of gas to Europe via pipeline.
Putin needs the cash flow to pay for his war. He has no other place to sell that gas

I just can't believe that Europe would rather virtue signal over Ukraine instead of having functioning economies.

Greta Thunberg says this will be a good thing that’ll stop “climate change.”

And don’t forget that we only had 10 weeks of grain supplies left. 12 weeks ago. LOL

But by that point Ukraine has fallen and who knows what other country Russia invades.
Russia doesn't have the resources to attempt any more land grabs anytime soon. If they put their resources towards invading another country, they'd lose control of Ukraine. Ukraine will be a large time sink for Russia over the next decade or so.
Germany has an obligation to see to its own citizens before it does Ukraine.

You didn't quote the 2nd part, but if NATO is seen as invisible/weak, then Eastern Europe and the Baltic areas will be in chaos.
Seems to me becoming energy independent would strengthen NATO. Remaining dependent on your enemy allows them to manipulate you.

Also, while I know this board cheers on devolution and loves the concept of the strong man/dictator, this would not be a positive development. War, international chaos, disrupting the global community, disrupting trade, etc. are all very costly. Just look at the effects and costs of when we did this under GWB and this board and almost every poster scared of "globalism" today supported until about 2016, mind you).
Texas has a larger GDP than Russia. They're not going to steamroll Europe during the 5 years or so it'll take them to become energy independent.

If Germany will be at 95% capacity in a few months, that means they already have enough in storage to last them til their LNG plants are on line.......so why are they still buying gas from Russia at 10 times the price????????
PS, the world is not flat.

Papermills in the USA ran at 800% annual capacity in 2020

After shutting down most of its papermills in the South, International Paper built a giant one in Siberia. That was 20 years ago.

Imagine a world where the Global Elite architect the decline of the masses, use the mechanism of The State to make themselves untouchable while weaponizing the same mechanisms against the masses,-all cheered on by an approving media chattering class.
This is why this all ends in blood. At some point the First World goes Full Venezuela for Soros et al and there is nowhere to flee to.

I wish we could find out the names of those Germans so we could contact them and asked them how they feel right about now?!

That is what you get when you listen to a bunch of radical greens and you get into bed with the Russians.
Gerhard Schroeder has been on Putin's payroll for years.
Trump warned them.
Too bad.
